They're talking points percentage, not winning percentage. They are two different things but people don't know that, or they do know it but don't care to state it properly.

They weren’t initially when the post was made, or haven’t you read that far yet.

Fair enough

If those are the metrics, though, then why'd the new GM hire Scott Gordon's 63-94- 23/.417 then?

Why aren't you rioting over how bad a coach Scott Gordon is?

AMac was a wreck out there. Looked like he didn't belong on the ice.
- cdearth23

Well, some people on this board swear that he is still a very good Dman and the younger Dmen look up to him. I say that is hogwash. You know, those who can't do - teach. Maybe he should be a coach. His best days are behind him and he is a liability out there. Every time he has the puck I cringe. #TheWeakestLink

Last year, he was a solid, if unspectacular, #5 defenseman. A legit NHL defenseman who was often miscast as a top-pairing one.

This year, he tried playing through injury and looked terrible. I think he's still playing through the injury, because he doesn't look close to the same player he was last year. He was especially bad last night on numerous occasions.

I dont think Hak is a horrible coach and I wouldnt be surprised to see him show up again someplace else.

I do however think he was no longer the right choice for the Flyers team with how the roster is currently made up.

Not going to diminish them being one of the top 5 teams for the second half of the season last year or Giroux, Ghost, Provy, Coots , Jake all having career seasons under his watch but all that is gone and the Hak time is over.

They were - you just didn't pick up on it. The sad fact here is that whenever someone here mentions winning percentage they really mean points percentage. I hate it, but I just accept it.

Yup, but not only the coach's job, but their place in the standings. They've been awful.

I'm chalking up last night to an adrenaline win - new coach, kid goalie, sub-par opponent. I'm very interested to see what happens when this new-ness becomes the norm.

Also, thanks to Bill for making me learn what a billet is. lol

Well, they are if the question asked is "Did you win last night?"

Anyway, your point that winning pct isn't the same as points pct is correct.

- Scoob

I was loose with the wording initially, mainly because I'm still not used to the terminology of "points percentage." Old-schoolers know that's how it was always termed

I don't think what Gordon will be preaching fits his game at all, look at the guys who thrived last night (Ghost, Sanheim, Provy) they all can skate and move the puck quick. Hagg was unnoticeable, not a bad thing, and Andy Mac was just an eye sore.

Saying the guy with a .560 winning percentage and two playoff appearances is a bad coach is a narrative
- AllInForFlyers

Scoob this was the post that started it.

He actually uses the words winning percentage.

MacDonald overall has had a sub par season but he played a solid game last night. He has been a solid player in his Flyers career. Paying at his best, which he is still fully capable of, he is not a liability. He is a key to this team playing better hockey if he can get his consistency back.

Honestly whether he is injured or not, he shouldn't be playing if that is what he offers every game. The organization has other options, but I'm sure that the new GM and new coach will figure this out.

Do you think Gostisbehere and Provorov thrived last season?

I think Hagg is having a quietly solid year.
When you say his is unnoticeable I am okay with that for a 4/5/6 type dman.
I like that he has some snarl to him also.

I've never gotten on the "AMac sucks" train because I thought we need veteran presence on D. Never liked the fact that he is our highest paid dman but I guess $5 mil is a decent number for his experience. I'm not sure why I noticed it more last night but he is just bad right now. He was serviceable last year and may have helped some of our young guys out but he is turning into a liability. There was a point last night where he just lost the puck and Hart had to cover it up. There was no one pressuring him, I think they were in a line change. WTF...

We are what 32 games in? How much longer are you waiting for this so called consistency thing to show up?

He simply fanned on a cross ice D to D pass. No real harm. MacDonald played well last night.
