Do you think the coach told the Dmen to push the pace of play and get up ice? Meaning they were told to move away or alter from whatever Hak had told them, in a sense the chains were off. |

I believe the narrative that Hastol has chains on any player especially defenseman to join the rush is complete and utter nonsense. I fully anticipated these pre conceived notions being posted. Now prove me wrong! |

Picture that guy a little younger, about 4-5 inches taller, with a full beard and an even worse disposition and you'd be spot on.

Haha answer the question, do you think Gordon emphasized the Dmen getting up ice and more involved in the play? More than Hak. |

It’s easy to label things a “narrative” in order to discredit it. But that doesn’t mean you are correct no matter how much you believe something to be true. |

Saying the guy with a .560 winning percentage and two playoff appearances is a bad coach is a narrative

No coach is successful without the players on the ice playing well.
- MJL
Okay good I wasn't the only one who noticed how stupid his statement was
"Flyers only made the playoffs because the players played well!"
Yes... Duh...
Hak is gone. Time to recognize him for who he was. A good, but flawed, coach who did a lot of great things but in the end couldn't fix the inconsistent play of the Flyers. |

The team seemed to play with a different commitment level last night whether it was for Hart, for Gordon, for themselves or for change in general I think it was evident.
I think that's great for every day from yesterday forward.
But the cynic in me, maybe the parent in me feels a twinge of disappointment that the same effort wasn't there when it was needed to save the coach's job. I'm not saying Hakstol should still be here, not even interested in whether he was a good coach or not. I'm more concerned with this sort of "we're going to play crappy until we get our way" attitude that I've felt from the team recently.
That's not to say I won't just forgive it all if they just keep playing well as a team, I'm a fan...not a coach, gm or a parent to any of these players. - shekkie
Yup, but not only the coach's job, but their place in the standings. They've been awful.
I'm chalking up last night to an adrenaline win - new coach, kid goalie, sub-par opponent. I'm very interested to see what happens when this new-ness becomes the norm.
Also, thanks to Bill for making me learn what a billet is. lol |

A .560 winning percentage in the era of the 3 point game isn't really that impressive. It's basically a 92 point season which will usually leave you just a bit short of a playoff spot in today's NHL. It's nothing to get that excited about.
And again, I don't think Hakstol was necessarily a bad coach, but I do think he wasn't a good enough coach to succeed long term. It was past time for a change.

Considering how bad his aim is, probably none. - MBFlyerfan
Yeah, my record is pretty terrible. Saying that Hakstol should be removed as coach after the 10 game losing streak last season, and that Couturier was more than a 3C.... egg all over my face. |

I'll suspend for this one post. You claimed the Flyers used a new defensive zone PK strategy last night. I posted a link that showed that you were wrong. |

I never said it was impressive. But I am saying there are coaches in that league who haven't even done that, over the same sample size

You do know that overtime losses are losses right?
Dave Hakstol’s record of 134-101-43 is a below .500 win lose record |

He coached 277 games and won 134. Are you not counting OTLs as games coached? Because 134/277 is not 56.0%. |

Come on, people -- that's not how they measure this! This isn't the first time you've seen this!
THE NHL DOES NOT COUNT OVERTIME LOSSES AS LOSSES.
You cannot add the overtime losses to the regulation losses and say "wow, those are equivalent."
They're not! They never have been. They never will be.
