I didn't see the game live but watched the replay, I saw the Martel hit but it did not look like direct head contact, one was it and two if so does anyone have a link to share? I saw one but it was hard to tell, first impression was it was a shoulder on shoulder. - Kucherovski

I guess I mean poise, calmness, tape to tape passes, hard deliberate hits, excellent goaltending.
I was glad to see push back on a cheap shot, but why didn’t they initiate hits like that on Stamkos or Point. Small moral victory for standing up but not something to hang my hat on.
I thought Tampa played with poise and skill and the Canucks played catch-up. - Makita
I wondered the very same.
I also wondered why the best team in nhl, whom we rarely ever face needs to cheap shot our guys. They were winning too. Pointless |

technically, the league didn't see it as a "cheap shot" as it wasn't reviewed by DoPS. Also worth taking note that Tampa, prior to the previous game VS EDM, was one of the least penalized teams in the league, and are viewed to some as one of the more "softer" teams in the league as well. Either way, I thought the response was great by the Canucks. We called for a response for so long, and we finally got it. |

Agreed.
We also are limited for players who can or are capable of responding appropriately and the capable ones did exactly that. |

I don't know how they called interference on the play as the puck was in his skates. They knew what happened got together and made the wrong call. Bad hit imo it was shoulder to head. Exactly what the league looks for. It wasn't late and that probably played a huge factor. Interference though? No. |

They did play catch up they also had a chance to tie the game with 3 minutes left . Edler
Canucks didn't dress their best line up and haven't all year. The team is trying to accomplish many things including a high draft pick and development of prospects.
Canucks believe it or not do have better players in their system than Pouliot MDZ Biega and one or two forwards. And good on them for not rushing them.
You can view the game as a 5 -2 ass kicking or you can view it as entertaining game where a very young team kept up with the big boys for 57 minutes. - VANTEL
I bolded the things I disagree with.
Hold on a second, I said gaunce will be better then beagle, not that he is right now. He's as good now, that doesn't make him better.

to be completely honest. I thought the hit itself was a bit "dirty" as it was from the blindside, and obviously Stecher couldn't see it coming and protect himself, but after seeing it a few times, it looks to be shoulder on shoulder as the principle. just my opinion though. Lots of people calling for a major and a game, but I thought the 2 minute penalty was sufficient, and the outcome was unfortunate. |

Hopèfully Stecher is doing alright today, if not I would hope we get a chance too see either Zacmac or Evmac get a call.
With a game against Winnipeg coming up after St. Louis game, a bit of extra size with some skill inserted into the lineup, would be a good measuring stick for either one of those kids. |

Looked like he missed shoulder on shoulder and hit Stecher's head with his upper arm. The whole issue is the blind side element on a player who's in a vulnerable position. Even if the head isn't the primary point of contact, he still hit Stecher in the head hard enough to knock him out of the game and potentially longer. The hit, like so many others that go unpunished for unknown reasons, was unnecessarily dangerous and should have been called a 5 minute major for elbowing. Anybody who's played hockey recognizes that would have been more appropriate than 2 minutes for interference.
In this league, the actual playing rules and common sense in calling infractions are secondary to managing the entertainment product. The refs are probably getting pats on the back today for making it a more exciting event. |

Baertschi was wearing a regular jersey last practice?? Schaller is also sitting in the press box waiting.
ZacMac has earned a look though. |

It’s one of those where the guy is kinda bent over or leaning forward so the end result looks way worse
But he was hurt so good on them for standing up for him |

alternate angle of it. Quality is pretty shotty so its hard to tell, but it looks more like whiplash? And I agree, doesn't need to be a headshot to retaliate and stick up for your teammate if you consider it "dirty". |

There were several blatant elbows thrown by Tampa players prior to the Stecher hit that were not called.
Good learning experience for the younger Canucks though. No matter how good you are, play cheap, play dirty, take no prisoners, do whatever it takes to win.
The idea that the refs and league will take care of you is a belief from the Sedin era that needs to be flushed away as quickly as possible. Yes, speed and skill are important. But when it comes down to it, you also need to be able to beat them in the back alley as well. |
