I am not calling Varone a true NHLer, but he had a good game. I get people want every chance buried, but I could list the open shots by the stars this game that weren't buried either. What I have seen SO FAR, he fits a better role with this team then Weal.

Thought this too, just didn’t want to say it.

Interesting quote from Gordon, that when Hexy asked about Hart Gordon told him that he didn't think Hart was ready, Hextall ended up calling up Stolarz. Hart then went on his run of 4-5 solid games.

Varone isn't that big of a guy...how many times did you see him get thrown to the ice, just saying.

That whole broadcast seemed like a totally different experience. I don't care about the fans. I'm thinking of the work environment. It's like night and day.

When you are forced to do something that doesn’t work over and over again, it can crush your soul. Plus the players may have felt that playing for that terrible coach might hurt their market value when contract time comes around. They absolutely played like a team that decided to get the coach fired... and I thank them for it and hate that Hextall wouldn’t do it and that it took this long for it to happen.

I have read a lot of material over the years about the Flyers, and we all have seen them go through coaches. Not winning enough means negative fan reactions

But I have to admit, I have always been surprised at how much some people hated Hakstol

- AllInForFlyers

Hakstol did a lot right. It just seemed that he wouldn't be willing to make some obvious changes and relied too often on his vets, even the bad ones.

Looked different live. Wasn't worried about the missed chances. I thought he was often lost defensively just skating around. He lost track of his man a few times but good team defense was there for us or Detroit wasn't able to maintain the puck to get it to the open man. Definitely a good skater and some offensive instincts. Better than weal. Liked lehtera more. Would love a guy like Coyle still most.

I don't hate Weal but I hope his days as a Flyer are done, unless it's as the 13th or 14th forward.

I will say this about Hakstol...the way he wanted to play, he didn't have the right players needed to play it.

And you bolded the most important part...Weal can not play a 4th line energy role.

Weal is a top 6 fill in. Hasn't shown consistent value anywhere else. With good team depth we should never need a guy like that. Should be a good bottom 6 guy coming into the lineup and a bottom 6 with spark hopping up the order. Let that contract go and let him walk. His career peak would be becoming Gagner.

I'll drive Varone and Weal to the airport and call Jori in prison to wish him well if that meant getting Coyle.

He would’ve been a great coach in 1978

In comparison to Weal, I’m not saying I think Varone is going to win more board battles. I think Varone plays a simpler game and is a little faster. Overall it looks like it could be effective.

I don't think he ever had a chance of reaching Gagner level, people may not like him, but he has way more skill offensively and defensively than Weal. Actually everything about Gagner is better.

So keep everybody's kick out after this season boy Raffl. Ideally he's a fourth liner but when needed can float.

I'm just saying....Varone is not much bigger than Weal, TK is actually smaller than Weal. Why is Weal so easily knocked down? It's not really a question directed at you, but if he was serious about an NHL career this is something that would of been worked on many many moons ago. The same concerns about him when he was in LA are still there, that says it all.

Probably not necessary..probably just need to trade them a 2nd or 3rd rounder with a descent prospect. Vorobyov ?

Raffl is someone I would look into re-signing if the deal is right, but if he walks I am not crying about it.

I could see Misha doing well in Minnesota, but I think that would be a fair deal for both sides.

I love all the hate he gets but yet he's a fourth liner that can move up the lineup when needed and also is one of the two guys who's helped the PK recently. To me he's worth the current money he gets.

Raffl is tradable if we are outside a playoff spot.

Yeah idk how high other teams will go. Coyle could get over valued as a deadline acquisition. Hes a solid 3rd liner with fringe 2nd line moments and streaks. But I'd be okay with that trade. Cant have room for every single prospect. Coyle is also young enough he could be around for a while. Fill the raffl role when another kid comes up.

I'd sign him if it's little or no raise and ideally keep him on the 4th line. I don't get the Raffl hate in here sometimes.

I think bringing the kid up for this game got the team out of their own heads. They stopped thinking about themselves and concentrated on helping get Hart through his first game. It’s hard not to be excited for that Opie-looking kid.
