I'm not rooting for it to happen as a hockey fan its fun to watch this Leafs' offensive firepower. I just think he is the type of Franchise center that is Young and will be worth every penny of the $13mil he gets. Possibly a return home to AZ if they offer him significantly more $$$ than Toronto can afford??

I can't imagine Arizona have the cash to actually pay him. They already have to get players who have retired to make the cap floor without paying much cash wise.

Matthews would bankrupt an already dicey organization. Add to that Keller would be getting a raise.

We will do. Calm down. There's 82 games in this season. Leafs were always going to finish 2nd or 3rd in the division. That's where they are at in their rebuild. They're very much on track. 1 point behind the much lauded Sabres with a game in hand on them

Boston, and Tampa's best players are older and more experienced than ours as were Washington's, 1 notable exception on each team.

Washington lost for many years in the playoffs before breaking through.

The Leafs are in their 3rd season since finishing last. The summertime hype was ridiculous. The team is still very much a work in progress.

If you could persuade the NHL to give the Leafs more power plays (currently in 29th), I'm sure Mike would love to give Mitch more ice time. The guys ahead of him in ice time are as follows, along with their standings in PP opportunities:

Rantanen - 7th
McKinnon - 7th
McDavid - 15th
Scheifele - 11th
Gaudreau - 1st
Eichel - 10th
Wheeler - 11th
Ovechkin -21st

If the league won't give the Leafs PPs, how do you expect them to achieve the ice time of other players. We'd have to just run 3 lines.

Do you honestly expect the Sabres to stay ahead of us by the end of the regular season? I sure don't.

And they play Eichel like crazy because they don't have 3 of him. Same with McDavid in Edmonton, etc.

No I don't expect the Sabres to be ahead of the leafs by season end. We need secondary scoring. We would just like to make the playoffs. It is still a learning/development phase for us. As well as Eichel is playing right now, he needs help from other lines.

I think what people don’t like is how much we are talking about it.

If a Leaf fan said the Leafs “could” make the playoffs 5 years ago he would of gotten shunned from this thread.

If the Leafs said the leafs “could” win the cup when they faced Washington in the 1st round they would of gotten beaten up.

The chances of an offer sheet is slim and the chance Dubas wouldn’t match said offer sheet is borderline impossible.

It’s just funny how we can’t talk about a bad team making the playoffs but we can talk about an unlikely offer sheet every single day.
