Yea those Sabres with a +7 goal differential and had a +12 goal differential on a 10 game win streak, they are not a comparable team no matter how close they are in the standings, it is very unlikely they keep it up.
Go look at TOI for forwards, our forwards are right there with most teams that have depth. Matthews, Marner and Tavares all play similar minutes to Kucherov, Pasternak, Pavelski, Couture, Hall, Monahan, Malkin, Forsberg, Kuznetsnov and a ton of other players.
Barkov, Eichel, McDavid, MacKinnon, Rantanen, Kopitar, and Seguin to name a few have little to no one behind them, those teams have to play those guys every other shift to compete. It will catch up to them. People want to complain about Andersen getting tired but want our forwards double shifting every game.... - harps43
It's Leafs fans (not all). If they're not comparing about something, they're not doing their job.
The Sportsnet crew and some Leafs fans get offended that the other team might beat them or score against them. Not much credit is given to other good teams the Leafs play.
Newflash. The Leafs will lose games this season. And every year going forward. |

Took 30 seconds to do so, apparently too much work for people that want to spew nonsense - harps43
Yet it's affecting the signing of our young players. |

The point is, we need to finish ahead of teams we have much better depth than for any of this to make sense.
Eichels' TOI is the same as last year. Buffalo didn't even give him more. - RogerRoeper
We will do. Calm down. There's 82 games in this season. Leafs were always going to finish 2nd or 3rd in the division. That's where they are at in their rebuild. They're very much on track. 1 point behind the much lauded Sabres with a game in hand on them |

So let's make this clear, the idea of rolling 4 lines is to keep players fresh, right? So I take it you expect them to play more in the playoffs?
That did not happen last June. Boston's best players played 15%+ more than ours. We lost in the 3rd period of game 7.
And trust me, EVERY contract negotiation will bring this exact argument by the agent. Mitch Marner's dad is texting people about this issue. It is real.

When Matthews, Marner and Tavares are all ~1 minute of each other in average TOI no one is going to be complaining about time on the ice. Yea every player wants to play more, but they aren't stupid and understand why they don't get 25 minutes a night. That isn't how you run a team during the full season, especially when you have the depth the leafs have. |

Marner has the highest TOI on the team this year for forwards
And last year went from 15:36 per game from October to January 1st to 17:06 from January to the end of the year. Almost 2 minutes more per game after he got out of his early season slump. TOI is not an issue |

The Bruins finished ahead of the Leafs last year. And their top heavy stacked lineup had to rely on an epic meltdown to get passed the Leafs in 7 games in a series they were the heavy favourites. Only to then get steamrolled by a more balanced lineup that didn't just put out 1 line. If stacking your lineup would work the Panthers would've made the dance on recent years. Solely playing Barkov, Huberdeau, Dadonov, Trochek and Bjugstad has gotten them nowhere. They're looking at a top 5 pick again this year.

So agents won't bring up their players low TOI next to their peers? I bet it happened with Nylander. |

You've just gave a big reason why our best players need to play more. We are giving Boston a massive advantage by not playing our best players as much.

Of course his Dad is going to want more ice time for him. He's not gonna say," Yeah, i think Mitch is doing well, but he could use a few less minutes per game. I'd like to see him down round 15." |

Mitch got 61 and 69 points in his first 2 seasons while still not having a full season as a top 6 forward. |

So who do you play more? Marner? Then Matthews wants more ice. Play Matthews? Tavares wants more. What about Kadri? Back to back 30 goal seasons, you can't play Matthews and Tavares 26 minutes a night and have Kadri get involved and play like he can getting 10 minutes a night.
And Kapanen and Nylander and Hyman and Marleau and Johnsson |
