I answered Vantel's question. That's one way to improve the defense instantly without any cost to our prospect system.

Draft and develop. Knock it off with the short cuts

I would go with build through the draft . The irony of this debate between the two of us is really funny. We switched places

- VANTEL

hey you asked the question, I'm just spit-ballin. They need more than the addition of Quinn Hughes to improve the defense next year.

You don't like the idea, which leads me to believe it's a good idea, because, you know, you're a moron

Signing UFA's is not a shortcut, trading your first round pick or your second round pick for immediate help is a shortcut.

There's not a lot of highend guys available to upgrade the defense, personally I'd try and get Erik Karlsson to sign in Vancouver to add to our Swedish tradition. He's only 28 years old, prime for a dman, and he's one of the best offensive defensemen of this era. A seven year deal only brings him to 35 years old, Edler would be a great partner for him.
- LeftCoaster

No no no and hell no ! He's play has declined two seasons in a row. Had a major knee injury last year well demand and ugly albatross contract that will make our Louie hate seem like a passing irritation. On top of that their has been plenty of not so nice things float to the surface about him as a teammate and person as well. Hard no thank you to that .

Well if he's got the puck a lot, along with Quinn Hughes, then the other team won't have it now will they
- LeftCoaster

Figured that might be your answer. lol.
Have you seen him play this year, he hasn't seemed the same player, mind you I have only caught 8 Sharks games this season.

I agree but I am thinking a player in the 5 mil range 4 years not 11 mil 7 years

Hughes is coming in and we do have players on the prospect list. I also want to draft another Dman with the top pick

If the rumours about his personality are true, then I agree, stay away from him. How about sign Myers to play with Edler and then get a partner for Hughes on the second pairing?

Edler Myers
Hughes ???

Like I said, getting rid of Gudbranson and Sutter for draft picks almost saves you ten million dollars in salary to sign a good player like Erik Karlsson. If he wanted to play for your team that is.

There's always a transition period to get comfortable with a new team, city, environment, etc. Look at Dougie Hamilton in Carolina, his numbers aren't as good as last year but I'm sure they will be next year. Same thing happened to him in Calgary (I think).

Karlsson is one of the best puck transition dmen out there and he's great offensively. Just a pipe-dream anyways, not sure he'd want to play for a team with as many holes as ours.

Signing UFAs to long term deals is absolutely a short cut. EK is trending down and the last 4 years of his deal will be catastrophic. Hey we can’t sign EP but st least we have a 34 year old bum earning $9MM PER. Great idea chubs

I think your dream of moving Guddy is just a dream . His contract runs out right around when Woo should be ready. I think they will keep his toughness.

I am not sure what will be done with Hutton and Edler but MDZ and Poulit will be out and Hughes and one of three LHD prospects are ready.

Maybe OJ and Sutter are moved for a RHD I don't know. That is why I said it will be interesting.

I wouldn't mind a package of Sutter Goldobin and OJ maybe for someone like Hamilton.

I think he is a bible thumper so being on the quitest team in the league might help him . And he could pray for your soul

He seems to grind on his teammates within a three year period for some reason. I don't see them moving him. I think Hughes needs a defensive partner that takes care of his own end while Quinn is off figure skating around the other team.

Trading Juolevi when they passed up Tkachuk would be a HUGE blackeye for Benning imo at this point.

I will have to go back a season or 2, and research your quotes, as you were the one who made the definition, long-term expensive signings = shortcuts( paraphrasing).

Never said that ever, trading draft picks or young players for immediate help is taking shortcuts because you're using future assets for immediate help. UFA signings can waste future cap space if they don't work out, no question, they can also help you get better immediately but at no expense other than money.

Good luck searching though, I hope you waste hours and hours of your life on it

A good trade would bring a lot of ridemption to the pick.

I'd be 100% down for the trade you proposed if Carolina has soured on him enough to shop him. One of Beagle or Sutter has to go eventually unless you want to convert one to a full time W, which is kinda annoying since part of why they have those cap hits is because they're centers.

Carolina wants a scoring winger apparently, their new owner isn a head case. He said that they'll never draft a dman in the first round as long as he owns the team

fixed and agreed

Still think he'll be a good PP player, but not sold on his overall 5v5 play.
