Trouble in Toronto? Who should be captain? Tavares? Matthews (who had beef with Babcock)? Marner?

I really hope two teams offer sheet Marner and Matthews, just to see Toronto match and pay too much for each of them.

- Lilroot9

I think they wanted this, the margin for error is lower sure but this year they're set up well to really go for it. They're probably a d-man away.

So is Turdlund going to Europe? Eff that guy. If you can't be happy on a top 5-6 team with unlimited growth potential, then eff yourself.

How about Nylander at ~$7 for 48 goals in 190 games?

So interesting. How can they pay Nylander a different cap hit for this year compared to other years?

CapFriendly says $10.2m this year and $6.9m for the 5 years after.

I understand the prorated salary amount this year, but I thought the cap hit was the average of all the years, not mattering if the salary varied?

- Lilroot9

I would think that because he is still getting paid his full salary but signed after the season started: From CF:

"Because the player signed after season start as an RFA, the cap hit/AAV varies. Please see the FAQ for further explanation"

Maybe...but Tampa is a monster and I will reserve final opinion until Anderson has to play 70 games this year

i think Marner can ask for $10M and it wouldn't be outlandish at all to say the least. He'd definitely get that and maybe more on the open market.

McDavid, Matthews and Laine are better than Jack as these players can single handedly change a game and elevate the rest of the team which is something Jack lacks. If not for Skinner we would still be in the basement.
- MLew65

Jack literally won the game for the Sabres, yesterday.

Im sure he'll ask for that, but probably take less. Not a hometown discount, just leverage. Nobody offer-sheets, and he's still young enough to get a 2nd massive deal. Good ol ontario boy probably getting hefty sponsor money now or in the future so not a huge issue.

It'll be interesting to see if they start to increase the amount of starts that Sparks gets. He's at 6 so far (has played in 7 though). In contrast, Ullmark has 12, though 2 of those are probably due to Hutton being banged up.

Toronto's bottom 6 will have to improve if they want to take out Tampa. The Leafs played their best game of the season the other night and still lost by 3. Mind you Vasilesky stole that game as Tampa looked asleep for most of the night. When Tampa is on their game even Louis Domingue can rack up 14 wins. Vasy makes them a juggernaut.

"Eichel now has 44 points on the season".

Typo? 45

Jack has been a dominant force in the league for about 20 games or so. At this point in the season, he deserves to be mentioned in the running for the Hart trophy. If I were picking the 3 finalists today it would be McJesus, ECHL and Mackinnon.

- SabreWest

How about rantanen?

I think jack locks this up as soon as we lock up a playoff spot

The one with Kadri as their 3C? the bottom 6 is fine, probably really good. Could use a 4th liner but thats a TDL add

The top 4 including Zaitsev and Hainsey is the bigger problem

IMO, Kadri should be a nice trade chip to get a couple bottom 6 forwards or back end D man. Im a little surprised they didnt claim the D men the hawks sent down. Want to say it was Rutta?

Toronto's bottom 6, as described and shown by Yost, is actually the best bottom 6 in the league.

Hakstol gassed in Philly. Carter Hart called up from WB despite abject failures everywhere.

They are making moves trying to make something happen.

Ullmark and a 2d for Konecny.

I think its becoming increasingly apparent that Kadri rode Marners coattails the past few years. Good player, would take him in Buffalo, but he is 40-45 point player and not as good as the past few years dictate. The leafs defense has always been a tire fire though.

Not sure I'd want to move a goalie this year. Not super excited about the prospect of Wedgewood being our backup.

It's been rough and rocky travelling for Eichel and the Sabres in the years between that game and the one last night. In the 10 games he's played in versus Boston during that span he had only one goal, two assists and was a minus-11 with his team going a paltry 2-6-2.

Gerbe logic: Jack dominates Boston

To me i think that hart is their guy. But some of those rochester bodies for NHL wingers would be nice.

Imagine like a vorachek or giroux on the team

CLANK is goalless in 4 straight. His poise is evident though. He has been better then Pominvlle in drawing guys in allowing Eichel to get enough space to get that wrister off.

Couturier has a very nice contract. Doubt they'd want to move him, but that would be an excellent pick up imo

Kadri plays on the first unit powerplay and Johnsson, Brown, and Ennis have all played in the top 6 in various situations skewing their on ice goal percentages. That article also hasn't taken a look at the past two and a half weeks in which the whole team has struggled. I never said their bottom 6 sucked, just have to be better if they want to beat Tampa.

I see MLew is hitting that glass pipe with the good Lockport crack bright and early today.

you ain't kidding

I'll let you in on a secret though...

Lockport's coke is actually crack... so I'm sure he thought he was freebasing coke. Honest mistake.

Voracek or Giroux are not coming to us via Ullmark. Nor can we afford them cap wise in that kind of move.
