In fact, was Q, himself, a wildly successful player? I think those who have to think more about what they are doing and actually learn how step-by-step become better coaches. I think you'd find someone like Kane unable to really break down how he does what he does in order for another player to learn it.

I am actually curious if any superstar/elite players ever did well coaching? Anyone know?

Just from watching him over the last 2 years in limited ice time for the Caps, he is a possession/skill guy that needs Top 6 minutes. I think he would instantly be an upgrade over Kahun on Toews' line. It sure looks like they are going to trade him so he might be a good buy low candidate. Forsling/Sikura have shown less in the NHL to date so really it isn't an "overpay" from Washington's POV.
- EnzoD

sounds like a good hockey trade on both sides - something that StanBo would defer away from - as he has to WIN every trade - maybe throw in Rutta and Gus - Washington probably feels with the big WIN they had with Kempney, they can change with a Rutta/Gus

Andrei Burakovsky has been a healthy scratch in Washington. Super skilled Russian with a high draft slot that has been buried on a stacked Caps Top 6 forward group and hasn't been able to be effective as a 3rd liner. The kid is young, good size at 6'3" 200lbs and it's possible Forsling + Sikura gets it done......thoughts??
- EnzoD

I saw this guy surface in rumors involving the Canucks... they can have him. $3 million for a 30 point guy who is frequently scratched - no thanks. Plus he's up for a new contract at the end of this season.

He's a big body that the Hawks certainly need. But, his production has dwindled the last couple of years--games played and points. But he's only 22 or 23. Might be worth the gamble.
Forsling, I haven't been impressed with. And, Sikura is another smurf. A smurf with talent. But the Hawks have too many perimeter players.

EDIT: Caps just won the Cup so they have a stacked top 6

Ovi-Kuzy-Wilson
Vrana-Backstrom-Oshie

Vrana is a really skilled player that passed up Burakovsky and basically stole his top 6 spot.

Yes, but they only have Wilson available for half the season.

I'm not against it, but at some point, I would like to see the Hawks actualy draft and develop a larger forward, instead of trying to rebuild someone else's that hasn't worked out.

Everyone knows already that Beaudin didn't make Team Canada's WJC roster but Mitchell did. Here is Team Canada's blueline for those who are curious:

Ian Mitchell
Noah Dobson
Evan Bouchard
Josh Brook
Ty Smith
Jared McIsaac
Markus Phillips

Entwistle also made the team at forward.

Bill Russell won two (I think) championships with Boston.

Of course - he had a pretty good center playing for him.

Rudy T with Houston won a couple.

I despise them and their I am superior to you thinking and no what's best policies. Look at California, Illinois and new york all run by democrats whom have bankrupted those states, driven poverty and crime up and are more worried about protecting ILLEGAL ALIENS over American citizens and Vets.
- Taylorst1

As a vet I find it highly offensive whenever the current commander in chief says “no one does more the the military or veterans than I do.” The man only cares about anything that can further his own cause. If it was politically expedient to oppose the military and veterans, he would be on that side of the argument. And this commentary is coming from someone who has pretty much been a life-long republican.

What does a larger forward matter if they play like Sad?
When is the last time Sad hit someone?

Poor 19 has been stuck playing with the Richard Paniks, Sad, Hayden, Perlini, & a bunch of other hot garbage.
Sad is NOT WORTH $6 mill per!! "2" PP goals in 115 games back with the Hawks BRUTAL
And he can be moved

Put 12-19-24 back together like Q had at the start of the year.

Could you imagine the Great Coach JC ( ) with Glass, Forsberg & Berube for a year like Q had? OMG

Was done with JC early when at CAR in OT he put Seabrook & Kampf out with 88.
7 should NEVER play 3 on 3 NEVER!! Lost game!

For everybody asking for more toughness when is the last "year" that Seabrook dropped the gloves?? If your going to stink every game at least be tough & stand up for your mates i.e. Crawford

Stan has Playoff hopes

Please cut out the personal insults and politics. PM each other to have a flame war. I don't speak for everyone else but I certainly do not come here to read that.

If they are taking all the rough stuff out of the game, maybe they are just moving it to the boards.

Entwhistle isnt 100%. Canada is waiting to see about a couple injured forwards and still have to make a cut.

Here's hoping he makes it!

Up Front.

Saad-Toews-Kahun
Strome-Anisimov-Kane
DeBrincat-Kampf-Sikura
Hayden-Kruger-Perlini

Ward in Goal.

Would rather see Strome between ADB and Kane and move Anisimov to 3L.

Not trying to rag on your post but you're acting as if McD reinvented the wheel and created the hawks renaissance . The hawks were the worst run franchise in pro sports. you could of had a high school marketing class think tank that could have gave you the ideas of "hmmm lets put the games on TV, get new star players out in public, show you care about your fans." Basic marketing concepts enacted with a premium product on ice equaled success and demand.
- WiscoReg

A famous talent agent (I don’t know who it was, but the article said he was famous) was asked for a comment after Elvis Presley died, and he replied “Great career move!” And sure enough, Elvis’ estate is worth more now than when he was alive.

I offer this in that we often overlook the death of Wirtz that provided the opportunity for Rocky to come in at just about the most opportune time. The hawks had loaded up the team with young, extremely talented players over the past 5 or 6 drafts; the team was ready. Rocky putting the home games on tv and hiring a good marketing guy helped make the hawks relevant to the casual fan again.

Mcd did his part on the marketing side; the team was amateurish on the business side before he arived.

But it was the on-ice talent that had been put together in the preceding years that turned the franchise around.

It is horrible to think this way, but I really hope the Hawks lay an egg during the Winter Classic and there is a half empty stadium. The league needs to use some other teams in this thing for a while.

Speaking of dump and chase, one thing that impresses me about Sikura is that he dumps and chases. He did so when he was in Rockford and I've seen him do it during his 3 games so far with the Hawks (maybe not every forecheck but more often than the rest of the Hawks).

If a player his size can do it, so should others. One could also argue that dumping and chasing isn't or shouldn't be a part of his game. But if it helps you compete, then every hockey player has the ability to do it. Just boils down to desire.

- AEL_Fox

That play he made on the goal eventually scored by Perlini was the first thing I’ve seen from him that showed the flash everyone was talking about. That was an impressive play.

A lot. Jaque Lemaire won a bunch as a player and then in the 90s.

NBA, Jerry Sloan, Bill Russell, Phil Jackson. Steve Kerr won a lot and played key roles. Doc Rivers.

Soccer, Zidane, Cryff, Ancelotti, Kenny Dalglish, Franz Beckenbauer

Ditka lol

Less common now I think cause you dont need to coach after cause the money made now is a lot more. Its more an ego thing or just really like the sport.

Absolutely agree. If the game comes easy because of your physical skills, You often don’t ask “why” or “how” and use that as a basis for understanding. I don’t think being a good coach is a technical skill as much as it is an art. The best football coach over the last 10 to 20 years is, arguably, Bill B of the Patriots, doesn’t have a playing resume that I can recall. And he didn’t do too well at previous stops. For as good as I think he is in managing his team’s talents, I think it was his capabilities blended in with the players that led to their success. (And let’s not overlook Tom Brady. )

Yes he is, but I’ve heard players interviewed say they respect that because you always know where you stand with him. He’s not telling them one thing to their face and doing something else behind their back
