The only, or one of the toughness issues I have with the leafs and that is only my opinion is toughness along the boards any area of the ice. D zone or Ozone
Tough play on boards. Lack thereof
Hyman. Marleau
Brown Nylander
Johnson Ennis
Kapanen Goat
Kadri. Matthews. Lindholm
Reilly. Ozhiganov
Dermott. Gardiner. Hainsey
Tavares Marner Zaitsev
Supporting be two columns left tough play
On the right light weight
In the middle in between ie Matthews perhaps still hurt - BreathLeafs2015
what even is 'toughness along the boards'. ability to win a puck battle? that's not toughness

Apparently? Which makes no sense because he has Zaitsev as weak when he is probably the best defenceman on the team at breaking cycles on the boards, he just can't make a pass. Same with Nylander, he won't hit people on the boards but he steals so many pucks on the boards just like Matthews

Puck battles along the boards is indeed physical play and if your nylander who shys away YOUR NOT tough. I know you don’t like agreeing SO
disagree. You’ll sleep better. Cycling puck along the boards brings a lot of physical interaction. Some leafs are good at it ie Tavares Hyman etc etc
Edit:
I actually find Tavares one of the best leafs along the boards vying for the puck as is Reilly

You don’t have to be tough to win a puck battle in in the corners.
Matthews isn’t a “tough” player but he is strong on the puck. Always seems to come out of the corners with the puck because he does a great job of stick lifting and just stripping the puck.
Also nylander is very good at this also. I don’t buy into the toughness aspect. NHL is transitioning into pure skill and speed it seems and leafs are ahead of the curve.

I think you’re absolutely right about Matthews although I believe he’s not 100% healthy. Nylander is good with the puck in wide open spaces in O zone but NOT in tight in a 2-3 man scrum in tight along the boards.

Nylander sucks. trade the bum.
Leafs can't win a cup with him on the team.
Leafs have a great team, and I was one of the first approx. 2 years to say that Leafs should be competitive in playoffs soon.
However, I would disagree that Leafs are a top favorite to win the SC this season.
At least, I have Nashville, Tampa, Winnipeg, Washington as top4 teams right now (as for odds to win the SC).
Leafs are a good 5/6 team with Colorado there.
Anything can happen, and realistically Leafs would win at least 1 playoff round, maybe 2 or even 3. But seems like still a year too early to be the #1 contender.

Pay no attention to negative shtick. We’re glad to have you. Many cogs make a clock go tick tock. I always believe every human has something to contribute - BreathLeafs2015
Yeah, he contributed terrible takes to this thread. And made people laugh. At him, not with him.
