Yep
Said it last night. It doesn't matter who they hire if that person doesn't bring enough for multiple heart transplants
Scott Laughton has been their best forward from puck drop in Game 1, no matter what Hakstol has asked of him, whatever line, whatever role
Hagg and Gudas, despite their flaws, have been their most consistent defenders
Elliott and Stolarz their best goaltenders, with Lyon doing his best with limited ability
It's shameful that it's been that obvious, every single (frank)ing game, which players have given the best they have all season - AllInForFlyers
I also think Giroux and Coots, for the most part, have been giving their all. My guess is both are just physically and mentally fatigued and frustrated right now. Sanheim has played ok when given a chance, and the mistakes he’s made have been due to inexperience not lack of effort. Raffl is also giving his all.
That’s about it. There are still too many passengers on this team. They are middle of the pack when it comes to talent among the skaters, and mediocre in goal. The only way you will win more than you lose with that combo is to have every player playing hard and smart on most nights. Sadly, that ain’t been happening around here. |

***I apologize in advance for the length of my venting. Sorry.
Normally, I feel that I have a good idea why Hak makes certain decisions even if I don’t agree. Last night was really confusing on the decision-front. I definitely saw the announcement that Lyon would be the starter. I took a nap and when I looked again, it had been changed stating Stolarz would be the starter.
First off, I would have started Lyon. I am apparently the only Lyon fan, so I feel obligated to voice my opinion. Once he settles in and plays his game, Lyon is a very sound goalie. He sometimes gets into a groove where he is great and can steal games, like he did against Charlotte in the AHL playoffs last year. He was impressive to me in his NHL starts last season by making subtle changes to correct mistakes he had made in previous outings. It showed me he can improve with time.
I also like Stolarz. He has quite the unfortunate injury history. He is different in net than the recent Flyers goalies, due to his size. Truly, watching such a big guy in net is fun.
I know nothing about Stolie having back spasms. When they switched starters, I hoped that didn’t mean Lyon was injured. I thought going with Lyon was better since I really hated that everyone seemed to judge him and dismiss him based on 1 bad period of hockey. (The odds were so stacked against him coming into the Buffalo team who was playing great. Then the Flyers team simply didn’t show up. The worst team start I have ever seen. Goalies are human too, and he got no support and took the blame. And has had to continue while being reminded of that.) I also think that the team in front of him needed an opportunity to play for him this time.
As for Stolie, I thought he had earned a break. Mentally, it has to be rough playing under these conditions. If we want him to say as fresh as possible, travel plus a back-to-back spelled break. I would never have guessed he would be hurt though.
Wonder if those goalies has to go all day with no word on who would start or if they were surprised as me with a last hour change? You are starting now, and you are not (except minutes into the game...now you’re in again. Go!)
Having young inexperienced goalies like Stolarz and Lyon in this team situation isn’t ideal. I really think both guys give 100%. Both have not seen their ceilings yet because of lack of opportunity/injuries. Philly doesn’t seem like a good goalie development organization to me. Which brings me to why Hart should not be thrown into this situation. It is actually a mystery to me how fans can expect to have an exceptional home grown goalie who makes no mistakes, has no growing pains. - NC Flyers Fan
Well put. It’s really amazing to me that a former NHL goalie like Hextall couldn’t seem to grasp how important it was to not only have quality goalies on the roster, but also to have a coach who can properly manage their usage. More than ever I’d love to know the real story about what happened between Reese and the organization.
It also makes me think a bit about something Carter Hart spoke about. When asked if he ever spoke about goaltending with Hextall, Hart said something like: I’ve tried, and would love to, but to get him to talk about goaltending is like pulling teeth. I find that just flat out odd. Why wouldn’t a GM, who was a successful NHL goalie for many years, not want to discuss the ins and outs of playing goal in the NHL with his top goal prospect? |

Yes, it is very curious. All the organization’s many goaltending dramas...much of it seems self-inflicted.

I agree. One thing I will add is I think guys like Voracek and Patrick are trying too hard. We all see the turnovers and they are bad but you can see it is from them trying to do too much themselves. They just need to tone it down and make smarter decisions. |

(Hit flag by accident sorry).
I could see a delay hiring Q but I think Fletcher’s hand regarding a firing was forced by this trip.
Even if it’s an interim until Q or whoever. I don’t care. |

I could see Q (or another replacement) coming on after the Christmas break. Either way, something should happen by tomorrow. |

No doubt, but I think we all pretty much believed this was it for Hak. Announcement made tomorrow makes the most sense with the team traveling today. |

Great read, and yeah this probably isn’t the type of team that Quenneville is best for. However, Quenneville is no dummy. He can use the rest of this season to get a read on whom to keep and who Fletcher should be looking to deal.
I get what AntSan is saying, but I disagree. Anytime you have an opportunity to land a coach like Quenneville you do it. |

Christmas break is only like 3 days and they get right back to games after that. Making the change before Xmas actually makes the most sense. |

I have to say. I’m truly enjoying the scrambling to the defend his mistakes even in his last breaths. - flyer_nutter
The only scrambling that is going on is from those blaming Hasktol for anything and everything.

Comon MJL, its obvious at this point that firing Hakstol means an undefeated rest of the season and a cup. Stone cold lock. How dare you suggest there could be any other culprits. Its 100% on the coach. You would have to be nuts to believe otherwise. |
