What happens if leafs aquired an older D man such as Seabrook or Keith (don’t know that they would) and player has a contract that runs to 2024 and player decides I’m retiring at end of 2020 season. Do the leafs owe money still? What are the rules anyone know

Most contracts are front loaded.. so by 2020 I don’t think it’s that much he’d be forfeiting..

Contracts aren’t my forte tho..

Yeah, but they’re really bad..

Gotta wonder how much of that is Parayko not being all that he’s said to be? Maybe we should look at other guys. Or stand pat.

If a player signs a multi-year contract at the age of 35 (calculated as of June 30 prior to the year the contract takes effect, not as of the signing date), all salary and bonuses continue to count against the team salary cap, regardless of where and whether or not that player is playing.

Source: http://www.colliganhockey...l-cba-35-older-contracts/

He was under 35 at the time, so if he retires, the contract is void, chara doesn't get paid. But I think there is a cap recapture penalty if he retires as well since his contract is 7 years.

That penalty would be his cap hit minus the salary. His AAV is basically 6.9 million. His actual salary after this year is 5 and 4 million. So Bruins would be penalized 1.9 and 2.9 million then next two years.

For your information Mr. Know It All, I graduated from one of the top high schools in the state of Illinois and then graduated from a prestigious Liberal Arts College in Michigan where I also played on a National Champion Division 3 Hockey club while earning a double major in journalism and history.

Now have a warm glass of milk and go to bed.

Did you just argue with yourself?

That was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Quoted himself, calling himself Mr. Know It All.

Just bizarre.

That guy doesn't write like he has a degree in journalism. Then again, neither does Ek.

Anyway, go Leafs (frank)in go, that is the conclusion I have come to.
