My favourite thing is how I'm not a real Leaf fan because I don't agree with him.

- TrashPanda

"Leaf fans" will be sorry when the Leafs lose in the 1st round again because Babcock played Hyman with Matthews and Dubas traded Lievo.

There is no way the Leafs lost in the first round the least two seasons because they were facing teams ahead of them in the standings. Zero chance.

I don't know man, you have Dermott as the 2 defenceman, and Gardiner as 5.. we strongly differ there, I don't view Dermott as top 4 dman, and wouldn't be opposed to seeing him go in a package for a more established dman...
- aries1976

Yeah Gards in number 2 and I don't think its even up for debate.

Dermott needs to not be sheltered before you can even debate this.

No, but trading Leivo for another winger, and one who is weaker and offers no immediate help was stupid. And the 4th line sucks now with him gone.

I agree with you...
Holl or Marincin should of been waived

At least Leivo wasn't waived.. unless this prospect is a complete just, but time has been bought, for now.

Lievo had no future here and was promised to be traded if he was ever put back to the press box.

The Leafs followed through with their promise.

I'm actually happy Leivo is getting a legit shot, even if it's in that cess pool of a organization.. hope he plays well there after what he dealt with here...

Yeah I agree, I like him.

He is just something the Leafs have a lot of....and sadly isn't valued in a trade.

They kept their promise which looks good on Dubas. Rep is important.

Flames running up the score vs STL..

They’re gonna get a reputation for that if they keep it up.

I’m honestly loving where hockey is going. We female dog about everything but it’s (frank)ing awesome right now. Ovi out there scoring like he’s sniping bison from a boxcar, emotion back in the game and guys are fighting, swim or sink with your goaltending...

This is as good as it gets I think.

I wonder if Jordan Nolan would be worth looking into come trade deadline.

I flagged this by accident. My bad.

He's absolutely playing like a top 4 d-man already. It's not even a debate, really. He's not a top 2 right now or anything but easily a top 4.

He is in an extremely sheltered role.

Until he is out of that role I simply can't comment on if he is a top 4 d...it would be speculation.

I agree that Leivo had no real future with the Maple Leafs. He is/was going to be a fairly reliable bottom 6 winger. Trading him made sense at some point but they basically just threw him away for nothing that will help them now or down the road.

Wow, you don't see Travis Dermott as a legit 1-4 defender right now or very soon? I really do think he is the Leafs second best defender. He is a gamer and should be part of the clubs' long term plans. Rielly, Dermott and Zaitsev are all part of the long term, with Zaitsev already signed to 6 years. Rielly and Dermott will have to resign (Rielly a UFA soon and Dermott still on his ELC).

Still, the Leafs will be without both Gardiner and Hainsey most likely at seasons end, so someone has to fill the void. I am ok with Igor Ozighanov. Possibly taking a chance on a Marlie defender like Rosen or Borgman, maybe Sandin or Liljigren, but I don't think those latter two are ready right now. The Leafs still need a veteran leader and a right handed shot who can help QB the power play which is why I brought up Brent Seabrook from Chicago. His cap hit is $6.8 through 2024, but with Gardiner ($4.05M cap hit), Hainsey ($3.00M) off the books at season end including Patrick Marleau ($6.25M) coming off the books next season, Dubas has ample cap space to work with there as far as the defensive side of things.

Basically the Leafs take Seabrook's cap hit for the price of both Gardiner's and Hainsey's. Meanwhile, Marleau's cap hit can be allocated to Marner and Matthews down the road. In the meantime, Toronto can work with the ELC's of some of the Marlies defenders (Rosen, Borgman, Liljigren or Sandin).

I like the idea of having a guy like Seabrook on the blue line. He can still play at a very high level, but doesn't have to be the top pairing to be effective. What he can still do is help QB a power play, and what an amazing PP that could be with him and Rielly at the point. He also brings excellent pedigree of leadership to a young defensive core featuring the likes of Rielly, Zaitsev, Dermott and whoever fills the lesser roles.

For your information Mr. Know It All, I graduated from one of the top high schools in the state of Illinois and then graduated from a prestigious Liberal Arts College in Michigan where I also played on a National Champion Division 3 Hockey club while earning a double major in journalism and history.

Now have a warm glass of milk and go to bed.
