Yea but his first 38 games last year was a disaster. If he finishes this season like he has started then all complaints go out the window. Consistency over a full 82 game season should not be too much to ask for.
- Pegullaville

In the NHL, a consistent 82 games is tough to come by. A lot of players wax and wane. In 2015-16, Sidney Crosby (the Conn Smythe winner that year) started with 3 points in 9 games, all 3 coming in one game. He was pointless and scoreless otherwise.

I'm not saying he can't be more consistent, but to ask him to keep this pace up constantly, IMO, is an overstep on what is actually fair to expect.

Yeah Scandella gone allows Pilut to play. Schenn has a year left so he is not a rental and he had 70 points last year. He will not be cheap. The only real asset we are losing are first and asplund.
- BigDog912

Schenn has 1 season with more than 60 points and that was last year playing with Tarasenko

Would you be okay with moving a top 5 pick and some salary and basically getting Sam Reinhart for a year?

It's still awful

Schenn has 1 more year left on his deal

He has 1 season scoring more than 60 points

That blues pick could be a top 5 pick

Moving Okposo out sure helps the cap but you're basically giving up a top 5 pick for someone to take Okposo for a player that is going to walk after next season

- Stripes77

The pick is top 10 protected this year.

I thought it was lottery protected...

Not that it makes it any better of a trade.

i may be thinking of a different league altogether, but i believe there's a way to finesse the time in which players are kept on the IR. Enough so that you could make the roster moves you need to without having to make a panic trade or something.
- Sabresfan-365

Not sure if relevant but players can be put in AHL indefinitely for conditioning assignments.

I'd trade away 10 top 5 picks if we were getting another Samson. I mean, we'd be unstoppable for a decade...

Draisaitl contract has given these guys a lot of leverage. I think he'll get 8.5 as well.

Buffalo will receive a first-round pick in 2019 if the Blues first-round pick is outside of the top ten selections. If the Blues' pick is inside the top ten the first-round pick will defer to 2020.

if we had a decent pp coach, his numbers could be better, as jack and skinners could

Moving Okposo needs to be a top-3 priority for this team. Maybe the top priority.

The Sabres need that cash for an actual top-6 RW. If they could parlay his salary with a pick for a useful player, that's a win imo

I understand that your not going to get a players best game for a full 82. But we need Reinhart to bring his A-game 60/82 games. His best statistical season so far over a full season is 50 points. He caught fire the last 1/3 of the season last year and its carried over to this season. If he finishes with 65-70 points this year then I will never complain about his play ever again.

Right which if you have been following the Blues means they would have to defer it to next season, and they are a complete tire fire and the odd mean next year they will be just as bad especially if they have a fire sale over the summer

It's hard to sift thru all the bull sh*t

When is San Jose sending that 2nd (1st) rounder for ek9?

Possible that if the Blues totally blow it up this year and end up picking, say, 8th this year they could still give it to us knowing they will be tanking next year and picking no worse than 3 or 4....not likely but possible.

Buffalo will receive a first-round pick in 2019 if the Sharks qualify for the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs and if Kane re-signs with the Sharks for the 2018–19 NHL season.[42] If the Sharks fail to qualify for the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs the first-round pick will defer to 2020

Buffalo will receive a fourth-round pick in 2019, at San Jose's choice. If the Sharks elect to keep this pick Buffalo will receive a third-round pick in 2020

just go to wiki for the 2019 draft

lists all conditions

Wouldn't that signal to the world "Yep, we're tanking!"? Isn't that something teams are supposed to avoid?

I think the Blues will pass the Yotes, Canucks, Red Wings, and Sens when it's all said and done at the minimum. I don't think its set in stone that they are picking top 10 yet at the end of the day its only december. Florida played at a presidents trophy pace last season over the past 35 games and almost clinched a playoff spot last year. If they pick top 10 its in the 7-10 range. Even in that case they can always give us this years pick if they want to go for Lafreniere next year and avoid being next years Ottawa.
