They took advantage of the opportunity, so they deserve credit. All I want is for them to score goals. Just score. All of my "hate posts" relate to them not scoring when given ample ice time. So, yeah, I'm pumped. They finally scored, and Girgensons did so in emphatic 2014 fashion.

Just show up and produce a point more than once a month That's what I'm looking for. Literally all I want them to do is produce. They are given a lot of opportunity for a "4th line." In fact, they we're rewarded with plenty of O zone draws last night, and they 100% deserve it. Credit where it's due, they played a nice game.

Can they continue to show up? I hope so

- jcragcrumple

I'm not sure if scoring goals is the only way to measure a players success on a team?

22 and 28 are all effort, pk killers and show tremendous heart.

Those goals were bonuses.

kessel was not on the first line though

which is it, because williams and brown only put up like 50 point in the cup years for the kings on the top line

I love how the kid is putting up 70 point clip this season and the hate continutes

he does have more points in the last 18 games then any other player in his draft class

but keep it coming

- homiedclown

So Eichel gets pooped on over a small sample size cause he had 5 goals in 25 games yet because Reinhart finally produces worth a crap in 18 games you would actually make a bet to say he actually hits 70 ? I guess you already have a couple hundred on Skinner scoring 67 this year too ? Eichel is actually good enough to live up to the pace. Reinhart only cracks 60 if he plays with Eichel the whole year. Kessel was the best RW on the Pens whether he was on line one or not and was the only reason why the pens won their first of two cups recently.

Hasn't erod been equally disappointing?

With less excuses.

Trying to adjust to the nhl as a 19 year old kid.

I certainly expected more out of mitts though

Wasn't all that long ago that people here thought ERod earned a shot on the top line....Baptiste as well. Certain guys are anointed and immune from criticism.

Erod is a likeable guy - kinda of a." Buffalo guy"

Ufa college free agent- didnt cost anything to acquire
Shows some speed and effort
Overachievers score points in my book.
Being paid 600,000+ which is reasonable
Eichel line connection from college

48 games played 7 goals 18 assists last year on a tanking team

Of course "he didnt pick himself 2nd overall"

Pretty much the opposite of this statement above

This.

If Reinhart can put up good numbers on his own, like we need him to, then he can be recognized as a legit point producer on this Sabres team.

We need him to be able to contribute away from Jack, say on the 2nd line where we desperately need scoring, and could desperately use his wondrous talents to help our rookie 2C.

The only thing holding back Sam, is Sam.

Couple of great articles on Twitter @buffalosabres.

Wish I could attach them.

Pilut thanking the pegulas for hosting his entire family.
Probably kim meddling again.

Risto joking with dahlin, changed his attitude and made him laugh.
Probably a 2 pairing defender at best

Eichel - "dahlin doesn't even know good he is"
Eichel isn't captain material and is overpaid

Clearly I'm joking , but homie and others have tried to tell me otherwise

The most recent stats ive found

"The players examined here averaged 0.30 PPG, which pro-rates to 24.6 points over 82 games. These numbers aligned relatively well with a raw analysis of NHL scoring: the forwards ranking between 271st and 360th in the regular season points standings averaged 0.26 PPG (21.3 points over 82)."

https://www.google.com/se...24165&source=browser-type

So 20-25 points is good for a 4th liner

The bottom 25% produced between 0.00 and 0.19 PPG (0 to 15.6 points over 82)
26-50% produced between 0.20 and 0.28 PPG (16.4 to 23.0 points over 82)
51-75% produced between 0.29 and 0.42 PPG (23.8 to 34.4 points over 82)
The top 25% were between 0.43 and 0.62 PPG (35.3 to 51.7 points over 82)

I think phil saw enough of sam on the 2nd line doing nothing, when the living legend pommer was on the top line.

Are you trying to suggest that a 23 year old veteran that's played parts of 5 nhl seasons should be able help out some of the younger guys?

Lots of negative Surrounding Casey which is understandable but he’s learning every game and will only get better each game I wouldn’t be surprised if he Got his batteries recharged by going back to his home and seeing family and having a Very successful second half
- gerbe75pts

I think because he put up 5 points in 6 nhl games last season on the 3rd line, expectations were high for secondary scoring from him, esp after ror got traded

Jack only got poop because he couldn't score more goals then a skunk

sometimes when the skunk hate is so overwhelming from the same 8 or 9 posters, a clown will throw clank under the bus, just so we are not reading the same skunk bashing day in and day out

is reinhart a savior, hell no

but he is a good young winger that was able to put up points with jack and ror, which is more then our scrubs can do, and we need him to be good right now

Not the only way, but you can't win if you don't score. And if you plays guys who don't score too much then you can't win. It's kind of like the Bills, they want to play awesome defense, that's great, but their offense, aside from the last couple of games I thought were called very well, has been atrocious, just trying to eat as much clock as possible, not doing anything that might resemble "risk". It's damn hard to win consistently doing that. Yes you will win here and there like they did against the Titans and then almost did the next week at Houston despite having less than 300 yards of offense in each game. You absolutely need guys that play well defensively on your 4th line, but they can't play that much and not score at all except once in a blue moon. Balance is necessary for consistency.

10 goals 20 points is pretty high for a guy who plays exclusively on the 4th line. But it's pretty odd to have a 4th line together for an entire season; because of injuries, promotions for playing well, call ups.

Good work - impressive

So you're hoping that 22 and 28 are in the top 50-75% of the nhl in scoring?

Girgs is at 25% 7 points in 28 gp
Angry Larry is at 16% 4 points in 25 gp

I think we have to factor in the pk as well.

My expectations were extremely high after last season.

They fell a bit, when I went to development camp.
He really didnt stand out.

His effort is top notch.

Yes we need him to be good. We drafted him 2nd overall for a reason. Just like Eichel and Dahlin he should be a guy carrying the team. I bash Sam because I’m tired of the Eichel hate. I’ve said numerous times on this board I think Reinhart has a career reminiscent of Pominville where he is constantly under the radar. But I also see the why posters are frustrated as they wish he was as dominant as some of the other young players in the league due to his draft position.

The 2 middle ranges would have them in a spectrum of 20-25 points, in order to produce in an "average 4th line role." The data doesn't include zone starts, but most 4th lines will predominantly not start in the offensive zone, and most play the PK.

So 20-25 points should be a fair ask to be an impactful, average 4th liner

They are, it's not their fault the other forwards can neither score nor play defense. But that doesn't detract from the point that they play too much.
