Please please please explain how Arizona signing a 15 million dollar per year contract there makes him their "franchise savior"? This would effectively kill the team as they would have no money to sign any other decent player or surround him with a good team.

And have you ever been to Arizona? They don't give two poops about hockey. They care about golf, football, golf, baseball, golf, basketball, and golf. Signing Matthews to that massive deal would not be offset by attendance revenues. Sorry.

- Kinger34

Boy are the paranoid Leaf fans deflecting, squirming, lying and crying over the July 1st deadline. Its going to be entertaining to read their wails about why the Leafs haven't signed Matthews as it gets close to RFA time.

LMAO so many Maple Leafs fans living in dreamland. The Kings don't have tons of cap because Nylander is at 6.9 mil a yr and you think the Kings will retain 2-3 mil of Doughty's salary? LMAO. They aren't going to trade one of the best defenseman in the NHL AND retain some of his salary for all those years he signed. Pass the stuff you are smoking. Also TO needs to offer more than Nylander for Doughty. When all is said and done, he will not be in TO.

So would you rather have Matthews for 13 mil or Eichel for 10 million?

Sabres are going to have 30 millon in cap room next year with only skinner and McCabe to sign.

Haha you cant reason with leaf fans. I think Nylander for Doughty with 3 mill retained is a very fair trade.

Toronto may be willing to move Nylander for Doughty, but it makes no sense for LA to do that deal when they wouldn't move Kale Clague for the same player. If Blake were to trade Doughty for Nylander when he could've gotten Willy for a non-blue chip prospect just weeks earlier, he'd deserve to be fired.

Because in Toronto people are sports obsessed, but in Boston nobody really cares about sports?!?!?!?!?!
- Atomic Wedgie

No that's not what I'm saying, Boston has a team in 4 professional sports. I would say that in order of popularity its Pats, Red Sox, Bruins & Celtics. In Toronto it's Leafs, Leafs, Jays & Raptors and I think before long the Raps will be pulling ahead of the Jays. He would still get significant attention in Boston, but not under the microscope like Toronto.

LOL at accusing anyone of "Dreaming" and then following-it-up with a hilarious take like that. Where the hell is Arizona getting that $?

https://www.fox7austin.co...met-with-nhl-commissioner

This is from yesterday BTW.

NHL sources tell FOX 26 Sports that Houston Rockets owner Tillman Fertitta has met with National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman and had preliminary talks about buying and relocating the Arizona Coyotes to Houston.

Stop with the Coyotees nonsense. They are broke, likely moving soon, and Matthews wants to win. This isn't a John Tavares situation at all. Tavares left a bottom feeder to join the Leafs. The Coyotees are horrendous and losing 50 million this year alone.

- RogerRoeper

Bob McKenzie was on NHL radio the other day saying that Houston is an unlikely destination for NHL relocation because there is too much local government control over the Toyota Center, the facility where they would play. Apparently when they built it, the city paid the vast majority of the building cost and in turn exerts heavy control over operations. So unless the new owner plans to self-finance a brand new building in the Houston area, odds are they aren't getting a NHL franchise.

McKenzie suggested that Austin and Kansas City are both higher on the list of cities that would get a franchise in the Central before Houston would.

Being told BY WHO? If the Kings went to Doughty and said they would be finishing last overall for the next 5 years Doughty would be fine with it. To me Doughty seems a tiny bit flakey and I think he's the type that can't be bothered moving. I think he just enjoys wearing flip flops to the rink year round. He"ll be another one of those guys that can't be bothered going to Toronto at his age. He'll be like so many others who want to come to Toronto when they got nothing left and want Toronto to overpay them. Like Nolan, Francis, O'Neal, Allison, Lindros etc etc.

I miss the Nylander talk before he re upped, can't wait for Matthews and Marner to completely dominate hockey news next summer. I'm sure fans of other teams like yourself do as well.

Seems to me it's the other team fans who keep bringing it up. Leafs fans here are happy to enjoy the season and not really talk about contracts. I have yet to see one Leafs fan crying over this. But hey, you keep doing you big guy.

Leafs aren't going to get the top defenseman they want for peanuts.

The numbers just don't add up. Marner or Nylander will have to go, and Zaitsev needs to be cap dumped.

You can't walk into next year with a worse defensive unit, and that's exactly what will happen if you sign both of those players.

- Blueshockey47

Leafs have young cheap talent on the Marlies that can be an improvment on what they have now imo.

If the D was as bad as all of you claim, it would show in the numbers. It never does.
