Your dreaming if you think that Matthews is going to take a "hometown" discount from the Leafs. The only hometown discount he is going to give is to Arizona's on July 1st when they give their hometown boy and franchise savior a 7 year $15 mil per offer sheet. Marner a Leafs true hometown boy will then sign for $10 mil per. - islansjet
That will give leafs the money to steal Laine away with an offer sheet Winnipeg can't match. Careful what you wish for troll.

Laine was clearly saying how he needs to go 1st overall to the Leafs to avoid Winterpeg. |

Please please please explain how Arizona signing a 15 million dollar per year contract there makes him their "franchise savior"? This would effectively kill the team as they would have no money to sign any other decent player or surround him with a good team.
And have you ever been to Arizona? They don't give two poops about hockey. They care about golf, football, golf, baseball, golf, basketball, and golf. Signing Matthews to that massive deal would not be offset by attendance revenues. Sorry.

Ironically, Auston Matthews to the Houston Coyotees actually makes more sense than Arizona That organization will actually have $. |

People do belive it though. Many in the Toronto media truly believe he'll leave for Arizona. It is so freaking stupid. |

Asking for an explanation is not falling for trolling.
It's actually more hilarious to watch all the Leafs haters out there scrambling and shaking in their boots because this team is actually good and a real threat now. God forbid we ever win the Cup, what will the haters have then? |

Leafs aren't going to get the top defenseman they want for peanuts.
The numbers just don't add up. Marner or Nylander will have to go, and Zaitsev needs to be cap dumped.
You can't walk into next year with a worse defensive unit, and that's exactly what will happen if you sign both of those players. |

From Bettman. Where else. Guy will do anything to keep the team in Arizona. Meeting with someone doesnt mean he is agreeing to relocate. It would be nice if they did relocate but I dont see it. Bettman is obsessed with the Arizona market. I get it because the population is huge but the people there just dont care about hockey. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
The Houston market is bigger than the Phoenix market.

Doughty isn't going to Toronto....ever! I'm not sure if he has a NMTC in his contract, if he does, there's no chance he'd even want to go there! Doughty IMHO, would hate life being a hockey player in T.O. I could see Doughty agreeing though to accept a trade to Boston. Chara's days are getting numbered, I could definitely see a fit for him in Boston. - NewfieStud
Because in Toronto people are sports obsessed, but in Boston nobody really cares about sports?!?!?!?!?! |

How close is Houston to Dallas? I know there some sort of distance thing as well. Hamilton couldnt get an NHL team unless Toronto or Buffalo allowed it because the city was within a certain distance and they would cry about "lost" sales |

Yes it is. So are Cairo, Rio, Mexico City etc. Size of population does not equal lots of hockey fans. |

I mean if Laine is one dimensional wouldnt Marner be as well? Laine only scores and Marner only gets assists. I rarely see Marner shoot. It is all semantics. At the end of they day it comes down to how much a team is willing to pay their star players and how much that star player thinks he is worth. Toronto is a much larger market. I would thin any player would be asking for a lot. Lets not forget living expenses as well. I heard on the radio that a condo in downtown Toronto is around 22 grand a month. Perhaps I heard it wrong but that is damn crazy!
Laine wont stay in Winnipeg anyways, its cold dark and doesnt have parks - xShoot4WarAmpsx
That's just for the parking space.

OK, fine.
There are nine hockey fans in Houston, so it's a bigger market than Phoenix.

According to the Googles, 241 miles.
So no territorial rights infringement. |
