The Coyotes will find the $ as he'll bring in huge corporate and season ticket interest. They'll spend the money knowing he will be a great investment to keep the team in Arizona. No different than the Leafs paying hometown boy Tavares, a 70 points per year player $11 mil.

It is plenty different. Think about what you're saying here.

Leafs (most money in the league) v. Arizona (least money in the league). Financially the leafs would've been fine not signing Tavares, they've been a bad hockey team for a long time and remained fine.

Don't position this as a financial decision because the leafs and the coyotes are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Your dreaming if you think that Matthews is going to take a "hometown" discount from the Leafs. The only hometown discount he is going to give is to Arizona's on July 1st when they give their hometown boy and franchise savior a 7 year $15 mil per offer sheet. Marner a Leafs true hometown boy will then sign for $10 mil per.

You sound afraid.

Just worry about Laine’s ego and the $15m he’ll ask for.

No that means nothing. I think they would care about hockey because they will have one of the best players in the world on their team. They will also be a good team again.
- BigDog912

So putting Matthews on one of the worst teams in the league for the past decade (while surrendering their next 4 1st round draft picks) will make them a good team again?

Interesting.

Winnipeg has to sign 9 guys next year including Laine, Connor, Trouba, Petan. they have 23MM in cap space next year. Not sure how you fit all these in.

Arizona needs to reach the floor and they know Matthews will make them money even at 15 million a year. Will it happen, prolly not. But their is a 0 percent chance Matthews takes a penny less then 12 million.
- BigDog912

And they do that everyone year by not actually spending actual money to reach the cap floor.
Patrick Marleau is a guy they'd love. 1.15 million in $ with a 6.25 cap hit.

Bottom line, they are dead broke and likely moving.

With respect Ek (as I enjoy the entertainment of this site and the conversations in the threads) I don't buy it. I'd expect no one is happier to make up and put out a new Nylander rumour - it is click bait crack for us Leaf fans (proof being I'm here typing this). Seems a bit soon (as well as unlikely) as the body is barely WARM yet.

He really won't and they won't find it. People just don't care. The corporate community yawns at the thought of hockey.

Bettman is having meetings to move the freaking team. Try to ignore their situation all you want, it's pipe dream.

LOL at accusing anyone of "Dreaming" and then following-it-up with a hilarious take like that. Where the hell is Arizona getting that $?

https://www.fox7austin.co...met-with-nhl-commissioner

This is from yesterday BTW.

NHL sources tell FOX 26 Sports that Houston Rockets owner Tillman Fertitta has met with National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman and had preliminary talks about buying and relocating the Arizona Coyotes to Houston.

Stop with the Coyotees nonsense. They are broke, likely moving soon, and Matthews wants to win. This isn't a John Tavares situation at all. Tavares left a bottom feeder to join the Leafs. The Coyotees are horrendous and losing 50 million this year alone.

- RogerRoeper

From Bettman. Where else. Guy will do anything to keep the team in Arizona. Meeting with someone doesnt mean he is agreeing to relocate. It would be nice if they did relocate but I dont see it. Bettman is obsessed with the Arizona market. I get it because the population is huge but the people there just dont care about hockey.

He's at his breaking point if he's meeting with a billionaire in a market even bigger than Arizona.
He will have no choice. He moved Atlanta when there was no choice.

Meanwhile, back in reality...

Tavares is on pace for 50 goals, ~90 points, almost 55% on draws, kills penalties and brings loads of leadership and intangibles to a young team.... And that’s WAAAAAAAAY (frank)ing more than Laine could ever bring.

Sit down.

The question is, do you really pay 10 million per for such a ridiculously one-dimensional player as Laine?

Hate to break it leaf fans just cause Dubas says he isn't going to be traded means nothing. He is not an idiot and knows someone has to go. If he can get value for him he will, simple as that.

Also it does not mean players will not sign for leafs because Dubas promised Willy something stupid. The leafs will be fine and have no problem signing players as long as Mathews and Johnny T are healthy.

Lol....you think the Leafs bringing in Tavares was a financial decision? Now I know you're crazy. The Leafs print their own money. They're not bringing in players as gimmicks to fill seats.

Doughty isn't going to Toronto....ever! I'm not sure if he has a NMTC in his contract, if he does, there's no chance he'd even want to go there! Doughty IMHO, would hate life being a hockey player in T.O. I could see Doughty agreeing though to accept a trade to Boston. Chara's days are getting numbered, I could definitely see a fit for him in Boston.

Rumor is Matthews only wants 6M if Marner takes 5M.

Given I'm assuming most Jets fans would tell us he is more valuable than Marner, and given we have been told by fans of many different teams that Marner will be a 9.5-11mil dollar player, I'd have to think Laine will be at least an 11.5 mil dollar player. No?

No question, Laine is asking for no less than 11. He may ask for 12 tops.

I mean if Laine is one dimensional wouldnt Marner be as well? Laine only scores and Marner only gets assists. I rarely see Marner shoot. It is all semantics. At the end of they day it comes down to how much a team is willing to pay their star players and how much that star player thinks he is worth. Toronto is a much larger market. I would thin any player would be asking for a lot. Lets not forget living expenses as well. I heard on the radio that a condo in downtown Toronto is around 22 grand a month. Perhaps I heard it wrong but that is damn crazy!

Laine wont stay in Winnipeg anyways, its cold dark and doesnt have parks
