So the Kings just signed Doughty to an 8 year contract with a NMC attached to the first 4 years but they're going to trade him?
- mjones242

I mean, they werent a last place team when the signed him. Plans change over time. I dont believe anyone expected LA to be this bad.

Let’s see the leaf fans lowball a doughty trade.

My guess brown and a1st gets it done in their minds. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

- KINGS67

Dang, 4 pages now and no Leaf fans putting out lowball offers. You gonna be okay there buddy? I mean there was a Nylander / Zaitsev / 1st offer, which is kindof low, but not the complete low-ball you've come to expect.

Hhhmmmmm, I think the return for Quick (once good - but not for a long long time) will not be that huge. Definitely not a 1st. He comes to the new team carrying his plastic bag of vertigo wafers and a band aid. The time is long past him being remotely as good as Quick of yesteryear.

As for the Flyers - yeah they need another IR ranger.

- 5Hole Mgee

Quick doesn't have vertigo and doesn't have a history of concussions either.

You do realize they probably read my post and made sure not to come up with such a crap offer cause it’ll have them running with their tail between their wobbly legs with embarrassment lol

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out

FYI Doughty isn’t going anywhere

How the hell would Toronto fit Doughty into the cap after signing Matthew, Marner, etc?
- Jb121191

They'll fit Doughty when Matthews gets that magical 20 million per from Arizona. People are dying to invest in that team.

You are ignoring the return the Kings would get for Doughty. No doubt an up and coming top Dman. The Kings are going to get a great return for Quick and Doughty. They can sell him or keep him on as a mentor. Either option is fine. Depends how they want to work the rebuild. Kings might not even need a full rebuild. Their big name guys are only in their early 30s. Still a good 6-9 years for them. People put too much stock in age. A lot of the top players in the league play at the top level even in their late 30s. Some even play through their 40s. Jagr played until he was like 47 and was a top 6 player.

Doughty? Sure. Quick? Nah. Goalies don't have much value, especially aging, injury-prone expensive ones.

There is no way the Leafs add Doughty's 11 million dollar contract.

You guys realize there's a comparable trade in recent history for Quick. Buffalo traded Ryan Miller at the deadline in 2014 along with Steve Ott for Halak, Chris Stewart, William Carrier, a 1st, and a 3rd. Quick has more injury issues than Miller did, but Quick is locked up longer term to a reasonably priced contract contract, whereas Miller was a rental. Miller was 33 when he was traded, while Quick is currently 32 (will turn 33 before the deadline). That should be the expected return. Your old goaltender as a cap dump, an okay roster player, a quality prospect, and a 1st round pick. We'll say the 3rd round pick was the add-on for rental Steve Ott.

For Philadelphia, the trade would be something like:
Jonathan Quick
Nate Thompson

for

Brian Elliott
Jori Lehtera
Philippe Myers
1st round pick

Doughty is fantastic. I love that type of player but it will be hard to acquire that contract mid season. I’d love to him in Boston.

Many teams out there would go for Quick. Philly is a great fit.

These two players likely go to the Eastern Conference.

Personally don’t think we can fit him cap wise. But Nylander, a D prospect (or current roster D) + 1st would be minimum. However don’t see the Leafs being players for Doughty

I'd take Matthews for Doughty. LA's defense is garbage with or without Doughty as is their whole team this season. Doughty got paid and now he's mailed it in...needs a change of scenery. I love Quick but if somebody is willing to take on that contract be my guest.

I disagree with a lot of this.

Doughty has been just fine this season. I don't think he has mailed it in. Some nights he seems to be the only player out there trying at all. He's not the problem. The problem is the rest of team is trying to change to the new system, and they are having trouble adapting. Special teams and team defense has been awful, but none of that is DD8s fault.

Compared to a lot of other goaltenders out there, Quick's contract isn't bad at all. Quick's cap hit isn't even in the top 10.

1. Carey Price - $10,500,000
2. Henrik Lundqvist - $8,500,000
3. Sergei Bobrovsky - $7,425,000
4. Pekka Rinne - $7,000,000
5. Tuukka Rask - $7,000,000
6. Connor Hellebuyck - $6,166,666
7. Braden Holtby - $6,100,000
8. Cory Schneider - $6,000,000
9. Corey Crawford - $6,000,000
10. Semyon Varlamov - $5,900,000
11. Jonathan Quick - $5,800,000

Quick is a better goaltender than a lot of guys on that list. If he were making Rask or Bobrovsky money, then I'd maybe be afraid of his contract.

However, I would also trade Doughty for Matthews, so I guess we agree about one thing.

Mjones, let's not forget Martin Jones played 10 games a year behind Quick. Only reason he got a #1 opportunity is because the Sharks were trash in net since their existence. I think what's funnier is fans who talk trash but have never won a Lord Stanley trophy.

Canuck, you and your fans are garbage too. Booed U.S. national anthem at Staples before we took a 3-0 lead in 2012 playoffs. Disagree all you want, 5.8 mil x 10 year original contract was too much for Lombardi to give up. Good example as to why you don't overpay to keep a cup team together...see Dustin Brown and Gaborik contracts too. Luckily Blake was able to get rid of the albatross named Gaborik. I've watched almost every Kings game for the past 15+ years and know enough to know that Doughty isn't fired up to be on a last place Kings team anymore. Dude has partied more than a college frat on the weekends.

Ummm...a canuck is a person from Canada. I am, and have always been, a Kings fan. Season ticket holder since the doors opened at Staples Center.

Even if I wasn't, why does this have to be about fans? As a season ticket holder, I can attest that there are some pretty terrible Kings fans too. I'm sure it's the same for every fanbase. There's bumholes everywhere.

I really hate that they play anthems at sporting events. It does nothing but cause problems and is unecessary.

With the Leafs cap, Matthews would be one route. The other option that LA might be intrigued by would be a Nylander based deal, except Dooby already publicly said he won't trade him. So that leaves maybe a Kadri, Gardner combo? LA probably wouldn't want that though. Matthew is pretty much the only option numbers wise and I doubt Toronto would do that...

Anyone who trades a first round pick for Quick should be fired on the spot. Change it to a 3rd and maybe you have something.
