isnt Karlsson the best example?

buncha bit parts and a 1st

- senstroll

No.

Karlsonn is an expiring contract.

Ottawa wasn't going to trade him to the East.

Mcdonaugh is a comparable...and you have to take into account Petro is better.

Well yes and no? Remember that Karlsson had them over a barrel and had no intentions of playing for the Sens and he would have just walked as a UFA.....other GMs pay attention to these things.....Dorian had zero chance on getting “full market value” on this trade right from the start

Dorian could have gotten more, if he didn't limit it to the Western Conference only. Pietrangelo still has a year left on his deal, so it should cost more than what SJ paid for Erik Karlsson.

You can only protect 3 defencemen.

Reilly
Dermott (I'm assuming).

One more. You decide.

Horton's contract isn't insured - no way in hell the Coyotes are going to pay a guy $5 million to not play.

Edit: actual salary: $4.5 milly this year, $3.6 milly next year. Still no way Arizona does it.

How do you guys talk about acquiring Piets when there’s no way they could afford him?

Isn’t this all redundant?

What whrong with our D? Seriously, maybe Rosen can actually play with Rielly? What if Lily and Sandy are actually really solid? Wouldn’t it be great it we traded Nylander or Kappy for a declining Dman who makes 8mil plus?

3.6million for a 5.3million caphit. exactly what Chayka likes.

It would be, if it was insured.. It's not, so Arizona, and not the insurance company, has to actually pay Horton the 3.6M.

I haven't seen anyone throw out offers that is an overpayment.

trading away Z's contract plus secondary pieces like Kap/Johnnson plus a late 1st isn't overpaying. The Leafs lose no primary pieces and gain a star player in a position they desperately need.

Keep the best 3 at the time. Who cares it’s 3 years from now. Maybe Borgman or Rosen turn out to be better than them.

would have to agree with you on the first phrase, leafs simply can't acquire another big contract, will already have to lose gardiner (/nylander).
only way this could happen if leafs win the SC this season, and then get ok from Marleau to trade him to Arizona for nothing.

our D is not good enough in our own end, need a guy that can play defense.

Pretty much my point....it’s totally different situations and I also remember it being said “Armstrong isn’t shopping Pietrangelo but that’s not going to stop teams from calling”....Armstrong doesn’t have to deal him and I imagine he will only do if the right offer comes along

i was going off the Johnsson/Z/Lily/1st

thats getting to the max imo. its a more valuable package than what SJ gave up
