Has anyone once ever asked people like Gord Miller where the hell the Coyotees will get 16 million per for 1 player? They will lose 50 million this year alone according to reports and don't actual pay close to the cap floor they are so broke.
I am amazed this never gets brought up.
The most broke NHL team with no money will fork over the largest contract by far in NHL history.
And the Leafs have no money they say... |

It's an interesting thought, Santsie.
Instead of looking at Doughty's $11 million cap hit, maybe we look at the combined cap hit of the top pairing.
Is Doughty plus a $2 million d-guy better than two guys at $6.5 million?
I don't watch a lot of LA games (as in, none - my parents don't let me stay up that late), but I'm very wary of taking on a 30 year old for the next eight years.
That just smells like paying a guy for past performance.
When you factor in the boatload of what we would have to give up, I'm not in favour. - Atomic Wedgie
In 3 years we'd probably prefer to be re-signing Rielly instead of trading him b/c of Doughty's onerous contract.
However, we may have just won back-to-back-to-back Cups ....

The leafs are (frank)ed because they have to pay him 11-12 million but another team isn’t (frank)ed if they pay him 15-16 million.
It’s just something people like to talk about to rag on the leafs and sadly a lot of Leaf fans give into it.
A radio host said it best a week ago. He said “only Leaf fans can have this good of a team and still not enjoy it”. - Santo_44
Winnipeg isn't screwed over either.. Connor, Trouba and Laine will all sign for $2M per season. |

I think when we are talking about a top 3 defensmen age doesn’t matter too much.
He will continue to be elite well into his 30s. I still highly doubt Doughty will be traded...but he is growing frustrated with his team right now. I think there is a small chance. |

It's disappointing quiter frankly, the Leafs can have this record and talent and the media is trying to not get anyone to discuss the product on the ice,. This would not occur in any other market. |

A troll from Buffalo knows investors who have lined up to give Barroway free cash if he signs Matthews. What more proof do you need? This is happening.
In other Coyotes news, The Phoenix Suns have teamed up with the outgoing mayor of Phoenix to ram through public subsidies to renovate their existing arena. Why does this matter?
Renovations do not include anything to make it hockey-ready.
So the Coyotes, who are at risk of any time of becoming homeless in the region, no longer have the option of teaming up with the Suns on a new shared arena.
But yeah, offer sheet. |

It's not happening so I don't even know why we wear out our fingers discussing it. - TrashPanda
I don't think it will either, but 99% of what is discussed doesn't end up happening.....so we talk about the 1%. |

"losing" is subjective term. They're still going to pay the players the minimum they have to under the CBA.
That said - it's all nonsense. Matthews wants to win Cups not sign on to lose every year but altruistically 'build' hockey in the US southwest. |

The Coyotees are finished. Too much debt and no chance of a new arena. Any other league they would have moved the team. Betteman is too afraid to admit it was a massive error leaving a Canadian city for a southern U.S market.
John Tavares leaving for his hometown and Matthews doing the same are so drastically different. The Leafs won't be in another city in 4-5 years and are a contender. |

that's exactly my point.. WTF do media people in Toronto do that?
Why are no teams lining up to offer sheet Laine or Aho or Rantanen or Connor or Meier or Werenski.? - PatC80

Coyotees are cheating to reach the cap floor. This should not be allowed. |

The annoying part is I have to hear from trolls saying the media loves the Leafs. I tune in, and all I ever hear is every young Leaf player is leaving and the Leafs are screwed. |

I'm a little bit puzzled by this narrative that the Bruins completely own the Leafs.
This year, the Bruins have beaten the Leafs twice in Boston. Toronto has beaten the Bruins once in Toronto.
Last year, the playoff series went to 7 games. We were winning the 7th game.
The two years previous to this year, we have beaten Boston in regular season head-to-head meetings.
We lost one game last week 6-3.
We are still on pace for a 1st round exit.
Leafs Nation just needs to franking relax. - Atomic Wedgie

Seriously wondering what people's thoughts would be if:
To Chicago
Jake Gardiner (resigns LTD)
Nikita Zaitsev
To Toronto
Duncan Keith
Brent Seabrook (2m retained) |

On a somewhat related note, I've come to the realization that the Leafs being this good (relative to the past 40 years) has made me care a little less about each individual game.
We lost on Saturday night. 5-10 years ago, I would have agonized over it, because dammit, we needed to scratch and claw for every two points.
Now, I can calmly rationalize that we aren't going to win every game, so frank it, drink up and start focusing on the next game. |
