That a huge chunk of change going to Doughty for 8 years.
It would be really tough to add him to the team with most of the cap $$ going to Matthews and Marner next year. - zazzle
Well in that scenario the leafs would be moving 11.4m per for just under 11m per for doughty.
So money wise, it works....actually benefits the leafs. |

Moving Zaistev is a plus for Toronto, IMO. So if you move Zaistev, and get a top pairing RHD in the same deal it’s going to be costly. I think it would be worth it though - ClarksonDavid
The Gardiner/Zaitsev pairing is playing pretty decent this year, so dumping Zaitsev would mean that we're still a bit weak on the right side; I feel Gardiner/Hainsey would be a downgrade over Gardiner/Zaitsev.

I'm a little bit puzzled by this narrative that the Bruins completely own the Leafs.
This year, the Bruins have beaten the Leafs twice in Boston. Toronto has beaten the Bruins once in Toronto.
Last year, the playoff series went to 7 games. We were winning the 7th game.
The two years previous to this year, we have beaten Boston in regular season head-to-head meetings.
We lost one game last week 6-3.
We are still on pace for a 112 point season.
Leafs Nation just needs to franking relax. - Atomic Wedgie
I saw someone mention that Since AM/MM/WN the Leafs are 11-7 against Boston.
what i dont know is if that includes the playoffs

Your math doesn't quite work, as if we trade two guys on our 23 man roster for Doughty, you need to account for Doughty's salary + the other guy we now odd to the 23 man roster.
Which yes, could be league minimum.

It's close 11.5 for Z and Willie to Dougthy 11 mil.

Hainsey see's tougher comp most nights and still puts up similiar #'s to Z.
Z is a puck chaser and doesnt seem to stay on his man or in his spot in our end.
But...he's looked better then last year, but making what he does I think he should be better JMO

Gord Miller was saying a team like Arizona, could really handcuff the Leafs, if they offer Matthews an offer sheet of 4 years at $16M per season. It puts them over the cap and gets Matthews closer to UFA status.
Also, I now hate Gord Miller, because reasons. - PatC80
I don't see Arizona risking 4 1st round picks to sign Matthews for 4 years, after which he can walk, just to handcuff a team that isn't even in their conference. |

Maybe if they do have the private investor, but if not.. Then yeah, I don't see it. That's why I don't like Gord Miller. Talk about throwing poop against a wall and hoping it sticks |

Admittedly couldn't tell you what the current intel is on both of them. AP was reaching god-like status 2-3 years ago but that's gone a little quiet with the Blues winning less. I don't think CP has ever hit that status but he's younger.
Karlsson and McDonough trades probably establish the precedent/price for either of them.
What do the analytics say about both? |

Leafs are 20-7 without nylander.
No rush for a replacement.
Put that 700k saved per year towards kap extension and bring up someone from the A.
Doesnt replaces nylander ceiling, but greatly improves the back end.
In that scenario. Im not suggesting we trade nylander. |
