Maybe they promote the guy who fills the Tommyhowk suit to GM?
- powerenforcer

He already has the gm job.

On the MTL GWG, a forward flew the zone and was in the neutral zone when the goal was scored.

Did anyone catch who it was?

I believe that was Fortin!

The Hawks would get nothing for compensation since he was fired. Although, I believe, if he signs a new contract with another team, the Blackhawks do not have to pay him for the rest of what is owed on his current Blackhawks contract.
- spudrock512

I don't think Q was fired as much as he was replaced and still under contract. Thought the hawks were paying him and own his rights for the duration of the contract. If they allow him to sign with another team for some form of compensation, think the hawks are on the hook for the difference between the hawks contract and the new team if the news team signs him for less than the hawks contract. If the new team signs him for the same or more than the hawks contract, then the hawks don't owe him anything.

How would this work exactly? If I'm the Flyers and want to hire Q, do I get to sign him for $100K and have the Hawks pay the other $5.9M? Once he is given permission to negotiate with other teams and decides to sign with someone else the old contract is null and void, right?

Thanks! I was wrong with him being out of the zone when the goal was scored, but that was him that flew it. I saw it on the high overhead replay on NBCSN last night.

He’s worthless BTW. Skates fast, but has NO hands, and has no idea how to play in the defensive zone, especially when they were 70 seconds from getting to 3 on 3. Inexcusable.

Shocking to me that he hasn't been sent down yet......would rather have Johnson in as a responsible guy who hits and can play center

I think the amount of penalties he was racking up sent him down. I think Fortin should be sent down too. Too bad Highmore is still out. There's always Sikura.....

As another poster noted, the new contract he was offered would have to be judged as fair market value. The league could argue the hawks paid A for his success over the many years he was coach.b i believe the new team could offer something less, but it would have to be with 500k or so of the existing g contract

Reports out there that Hawks are open to Jokiharju playing for Finland in the WJC. I would be all for it as it may help rejuvenate him so he doesn't get in a rut during this overall team downward spiral.

That's counter intuitive to me- he's management, not labor. There is no salary cap or CBA implication here. Should he desire to sit on his butt for the next year and a half and cash Rocky's checks, that's his right. After all, he was fulfilling his part of the contract when he was relieved of his coaching duties. Wouldn't you, as his employer, expect to be released from your obligation if he signed on to work for one of your competitors?

Not sure if it's physical, mental or ice time related....but Joki has not looked like the same guy since Colliton took over. Good thing Q hates young players!! That idiot Quenneville had Jokiharju looking like a Calder Trophy candidate and Colliton comes in to play the kid 12 minutes in favor of All Stars like Manning (28yrs old) and Rutta (28 yrs old)

Actually might be the best thing for the kid to get away from the dysfunction at the junction and go play for Finland in that tournament. It's really a U20 tournament with some excellent teams and players. He would benefit from the experience.

Agreed. In theory would help him get some confidence back being one of, if not the best player on the ice for Finland.

This assuming that somebody takes Seabrook's contract, opening up the cap space to sign Panarin? Good luck with that.
- Dieselhead

Don't need it ... got it already ... raise in a cap, and expiring contracts ...

Now otoh -why would he want to play for this? That's a different story since it is a far different team than the one he got traded from....

It was probably overcompensation for Martinsen tripping on his own goal line ... like most wingers are supposed to be doing (iow desperation)...

The first period I think 5 different skaters fell, and Seabs fell twice. Zamboni dropped a bunch of banana peels on the ice.
