It's a good point 'Bows...Joki was under pressure on the first goal and blindly played it up the sideboards hoping a winger would be there. Jet player pounced on the errant pass and Hawks are down 1-0 within a few seconds.

It's a colossal mess. Young coach has used a multitude of different lineups.

I was lucky tonight, didn't get home until about 3 minutes left in the 1st period so I missed the carnage. Second period was pretty entertaining. I think I'll just start skipping the first period from now on...

Is it that the Hawks play better, or that teams take their foot off the gas pedal and relax when leading by 2+ goals early in the game? Or both?

Think it is primarily driven by taking their foot off the gas. The good hawks team from some time back used to do that too.

No team in the league giving it up so hard in the first. Hawks have now given up 47 first period goals in 32 games. The next "most" given up in the first is Tampa with 35.
