A couple of core guys went after him. And then some.
- I Am The Breadman

I'm sure he turned his innate ability to irritate on them. He could always get to Toews.

That's definitely what it looked like. He was in piss-off mode. I'm pretty sure he told Murphy he didn't have the balls to fight.

Is there a timetable on Arty? I know it was a concussion, but nothing more is known yet, right? Damn Shea Weber!

Article about Shaw's return to Chicago. Man, we miss his tenacity and his versatility.

https://www.dailyherald.c...lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

"Still, it's players like Shaw that most teams need to be successful over the long haul. A guy who can score 12 to 18 goals a season. Who can play on any line, in any role. Deliver a hit to fire up a bench. Be a leader behind the scenes. Get a team out of a slump with a fiery speech or two.

Tangibles, intangibles -- Shaw has both in spades.

"We always say it's not always the best players that make the best teams -- it's the best group of players," Julien said. "You need a little bit of everything -- whether it's highly skilled players, grinders, penalty killers and guys like Shawzie … that you can put on the fourth line (or) the first line and they'll always do the job.

"Those are players that are not always easy to find, but when you have them you want to take advantage of it and that's what we've done with Andrew Shaw so far.""

But you got Toews, Mark Messier Leadership Award winner, Top 100 player of All-Time

Can't he lead behind the scenes and throw up a fiery speech to get this team motivated every now and then?

That's counter intuitive to me- he's management, not labor. There is no salary cap or CBA implication here. Should he desire to sit on his butt for the next year and a half and cash Rocky's checks, that's his right. After all, he was fulfilling his part of the contract when he was relieved of his coaching duties. Wouldn't you, as his employer, expect to be released from your obligation if he signed on to work for one of your competitors?
- Davewn

He has a contract that the team must honor? They replaced home, he didn’t quit.
The hawks would be interested in letting him sign with someone else so they don’t have to pay the full term of the contract while Q just sits. The hawks have to give permission to him to sign someone else; allowing them to do so eliminates some — and potentially all — of their financial obligation to him.

Doesn’t quite work that way:

- walleyeb1

It sure does — from article cited above:

It seems unlikely that Quenneville would walk away from what’s left of the hefty $6 million a season that he’d get by not working over the next two years to sign for less money with another team. The Blackhawks could save themselves some of that payout by carrying a portion if he signed a somewhat smaller ticket elsewhere.

Article says: (1) he gets full payment if he doesn’t work or (b) hawks would not have to pay full payment but only a portion of he signs at a lower contract with someone else.

Q has first choice: (1) don’t work and make hawks pay full price of contract or (2) seek a position somewhere else and have Hawks pay difference between their contractual obligation and what the new team will pay.

Only thing that is not clear to me is whether he can unilaterally decide to take another position without Hawks consent — and thus void the hawks’ contract — which puts the hawks off the hook.

I'm not sure if that's a title drop, an actual question, or a combination of the two? Haha.

Joki-har-ju (ju-ju, ju-ju) that's the best I can do with Who Are You?

So, what are you saying?

He just happened to be the Captain of a team loaded with talent, and THAT'S why they won those cups?

The narrative has been it was all Toews being all "Leadershippy" and "Serious" all the time and that was why the team had all that success....

Which one was it??

- RoloTahmasee

I think I was clear. Leadership alone can't make pucks go into the net for and not go in against...or a make a blueline composed of aging stars and young never-will-be's into a competent defensive unit...

and no the narrative was not that winning 3 cups reduced to toews leadership...teams win cups not individuals...but that is not diminish the role of toews leadership...it is not either/or proposition which is a false dichotomy

for gawd sakes one of the greatest basketball players to lace it up didn't win until he was in his late 20's with the bull's...yeah MJ was a leader but ya gotta have few other things: like skilled, competent teammates who know their roles and oh yeah another great player to share the load...aka pippen.

Its Strome time. He can step right in there and take the 2C role.

Heavens forbid the puck heads into the Hawks'z zone, tho. Him, Dinky and Kane will never get it out.

I'm afraid that JC will give it to Kampf or Krugs.

For a Murphy and Shaw fight, Shaw might win like when he fought Rat Marchand. Murphy can be uneasy on his skates. He did look good in his return.

Shaw shouldn't be fighting in reality. He took a long time to recover from his last concussion. I fear one more may have him in a very bad place.

Murph is fine. He found his way to being a whipping boy on these threads because he was traded for Hjalmarsson. Or rather the ghost of Hjalmarsson.

TBF, someone on that line needs to know their way around their own zone.

I always liked Murphy. Dependable. He's not a good fighter. Whipping boy? Here? Crazy!

Quote from Hogs interim head coach Derek King on Dylan Sikura and why it's best for him to be patient with his development and wait for the right time to get to the NHL. Good reminder for impatient fans like me to develop prospects on an appropriate timeline so they don't yo-yo between the NHL and AHL (as King states it).

“I think he’s finding his game in the AHL. I still think he puts a little too much pressure on himself to be the best player on the ice every night. There’s nothing wrong with that, but he’s got to realize this is a pretty good hockey league. At the next step, it’s pretty big. I try to explain to him not to be in such a rush to get to the NHL because when you do get there, you want to stay there. You don’t want to be up and down like a yo-yo. He’s a talented hockey player. He’s going to play in the NHL eventually. But I tell him, ‘Don’t be in a rush. Take your time because this isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.’ If he takes those steps, in a year from now or, who knows maybe it takes two years from now, but he’ll be a complete hockey player and when he goes back up, he’ll be there for good.”
