LA and ANA are just heavy now. - Garnie
Like I said, they're not what they used to be, but mostly it's because they can't score. They're still capable of playing physical and where everyone thinks we're lacking.
I'm a yuge fan of physical guys who can hockey, but so is the rest of the league and besides overpaying for Simmonds or Lucic, we could call up Marchment to eat popcorn for most of the season while Ennis plays instead of him? |

It's like we're on a 10-game losing streak and at risk of missing the playoffs in here.
Now that my Saturday night rage has subsided, here are Gravy's Hot and Delicious Takes:
1. No to Pietrangelo. He's a good player and I'd love to have him, but I think the dynamics around the trade would be difficult to pull off (assets, sign and trade, etc.). It's not like EK where it was public knowledge (and OTT got burned).
2. Yes to playing our hockey. Fast and heavy. We are totally capable of playing that way. Remember the California road trip? ANA, LA aren't the teams they used to be, but those are all still physical teams and somehow we managed to sweep that road trip convincingly without having to ask our Alumnis to suit up. - gravyface
None of those team were at the time what they use to be.
If you can get piet for z johnsson and a 2nd, you have to do it.
But i believe it will cost more. |

Agreed, dont want to overpay to get grit, but the leafs time is now. Overpay if it helps. Nothing stupid like lucic or anything crazy long term.
Calling marchment and playing him would be nice. Hes pretty good on the marlies, wouldnt mind seeing what he could do on the leafs. |

I look at a Mcdonaugh trade as a comparison
You just have to take into account of the J.T. Miller/Namestnikov swap. Miller was easily the better player...turn the conditional 2nd that turns into a 1st into a 3rd. There’s your value |

It'll cost more, and we'd want a sign and trade or least need to be given permission to speak to player/agent.
Pietrangelo knows he could make a fortune on the open market and somebody will (over?) pay the man. |

ANA and LA are still big and physical teams; they can't score, that's their problem.
Babcock knows what we have and has no choice but to "create an image of what that team should look like".
Fast. Skilled. "Heavy" (not banging, heavy on puck).
Play to your strengths, adding like one 4th line sandpaper guy isn't going to do anything at all. |

Add Simmonds as a rental, add Pietrangelo (not for Nylander). Jerk off at the parade. Profit. FACT |

Agreed. But if the leafs could chat with his agent prior to trade maybe they get those details of what he wants.
But the yes the cap hit would be a factor for sure. |

No to pietrangelo.
Trade nylander for a other winger without the attitude problems, but wíth some sort of effort and winning mentality.
Simmonds would be nice to add for a playoff run, maybe in exchange of johnsson. |

In the 2 games Nylander has played, the Leafs allowed 11 goals. Nylander has been on the ice of 0 of them. Trade that lazy Marner. |

I agree on Marchment. He can skate, would be a good fourth liner on this team. Need some cojones on this team and his salary is not an issue. No need to pay anything over minimum for grit. Also, if Boston can retaliate without paying any price the way knuckle dragging Wagner did against Rielly, I wouldn't mind him busting up anyone that plays the goon tactics with our star players. Bad penalty - I don't give a sh!t, we don't get many calls anyway.

Perhaps, but I just don't think it'll play out well. If he was a rental this year, he may just cost us picks and/or a good prospect, but that extra year into our cap crunch year doesn't bode well. |
