Well at least neuvirth didnt hurt anything other than his feelings today....
Come on team positive!

- sILKAsSINASALO

That is a positive, but remember he got injured days after his last start...so it's still possible.

That all depends on the team Simmonds is traded to. A playoff team trying to add to get stronger isn't giving up immediate help. A non-playoff team would be willing to give up something off the roster, but why would they want to add Simmonds then?

Edit: late again

- Glak18

Honestly we may only get offered picks for Simmonds and I'd still be ok with that. They're going into the off season looking to change things up and have a ton of assets in place. An extra 1st might be the difference in getting a deal done.

They just got railed by one of the top five teams in the league, in a road b2b

It's unfortunate, but ultimately not that complicated. Just got railed. It happens. They need to move on

- AllInForFlyers

They got railed, but the Flyers outplayed Winnipeg for the first 28 minutes. So it wasn't a matter today of the Flyers not coming ready to play. The big issue was that Hellebuyck was outstanding and Neuvirth was completely ineffective. Thereafter, the Jets dominated the rest of the way without much pushback.

Agreed, the return from some players may be enough to get a solid roster player that can become immediate help.

3 goals on 10 shots...can you really blame Neuvirth on 2 of them? A lot of the dismantling the Jets did on the Flyers were direct results from the Flyers sloppy play once again not getting the puck out and giving Winnipeg 2nd and 3rd chances later on.

Hellebuyck played well no question, but every time the Flyers fail to capitalize on their chances it can't always be the praise of other team's goaltenders. It's a common theme where the other team's goaltenders steal games from the Flyers, eventually the Flyers players have to steal goals like other teams do to them. Seems like the Flyers rely too much on luck to bury their chances.

The problem is that the teams who are likely most interested in Simmonds are contenders. They’ll be looking to send picks/prospects back.
- BiggE

This is very true. while this is unlikely, maybe a contender that has a UFA to be coming back and we resign him.

They rely on luck to bury their chances?

What do you base that on?

Well if other goaltenders always steal goals then how have they scored goals then. Ever hear "We just didn't get the bounces tonight"...that's considered luck.

Maybe a player has a wide open net, the player shoots the puck and instead of hitting the top part that is open it gets stopped by a glove...amazing save or bad shooting?

On the power play, puck laying on the ice, multiple players push puck into goaltenders pads hoping it somehow goes through pads....amazing save or hoping it slips through somehow?

Funny how so many other teams who started their rebuild the same time as us or even later are leaps and bounds ahead of this team. Anybody praising Hextall as this great guy who drafted so well , need to shake their head.

Do any of these teams have any players who were drafted high in the draft who were considered franchise players before the draft?

Yes, it cannot go both ways. Fact is we did start the game well, fact is Hellebuyck made some great stops, but it is also true that I saw us fumble passes that could have lead to shots, saw us whiff on shots, and shoot wide or high when we had the goalie beat.

Well one thing I commonly see when the Flyers have these types of games is the Flyers fail to bury their chances and other teams come down and score on a "weak" goal.

Hmm wonder if that same goal would go in if the Flyers scored?

I see 2 things that play into this...

First, we are weak as a team down the center due to Coots absence and the 2C/3C hole. Defense is still mismatched and prone to errors. We don’t have many strong defensive wingers to compensate.

Regardless of what the stats say, we give up a lot of quality chances.

Second, goaltending hasn’t been adequate. It is my belief that in most of our losses adequate or even good goaltending would only have made the loss look nicer. It would have taken top notch world class goaltending in order to win most of these games we lose.

Neuvirth was at least partially culpable on all 3. First was a clear-sighted shot from a stoppable range. 2nd was screened but low glove. Third was a bad rebound on a shot he should have gloved. It wasn't all on Neuvirth -- 1st goal was culmination of a bad shift for the Flyers, 2nd one Provorov screened him, 3rd one Provorov didn't contain Tanev -- but Neuvirth was rusty and totally ineffective.
