Everyone always says we don't see offer sheets because GM's have a gentleman's agreement.

False.

The main reason is that players don't just want money, they also like to win. Why sign with Arizona for a max contract when you know this will cripple them? No 1sts for 5 years. Awesome. Where do I sign up for that? Instead of playing alongside Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Reilly...I can play with Galchenyuk and Keller. With no sure help for the next 5 years.

But since Ek saw this discussion on HNIC it's a hot rumour...

I don't really think the whole offer sheet will get out of control but if anyone is to step up Matthews would be the only thing that might barely save the coyotes.

The price to pay for that 3-4-5 first round picks whatever doesn't matter if he fills the stadium and they even win actual games.

Just sayin the leafs cant compete with giving him the max, no one can. The value of saving your team doesn't actually matter.

I always ask about the Coyotees, where is this magical $ coming from to sign Matthews for a record NHL contract?

Knowing the Maple Farts will match any offer, the Isles should throw 14-15m at him. Payback for the Tavares tampering

Thanks for taking 5 million off our cap with that useless plug, Matt Martin.
Oh my god Leafs signed a UFA! The horror!

Wow, such clickbait and wer'e all falling for it. The sheer number of picks as compensation is exteremely prohibitive of offer sheets for elite players. And maybe rightly so.

Arizona actually cheats to not pay $ to reach the cap floor, but they'll have enough for a record Matthews contract. They'll need to find some massive loan to do that.

If I am Dubas, I ink this kid and perhaps trade Marner if I MUST to get some picks and or younger players to help keep the window open. Matthews and JT are an impressive as a 1-2 punch.

With that said, you don't think that other teams with deep pockets and cap space wouldn't mess with Toronto? I would if I were Fletcher or Lou or the GM for the Rangers.

Supposedly, the Flyers offered 11x8 to JT and couldn't get his attention as he wanted to play for his hometown team. I get that.

Enter AZ. Your franchise sold for $250m-ish recently? Vegas went for $500m and Seattle for $650m. Wanna sell some jerseys? Fill some seats and boost the value of the franchise to 650m? Sign young austin to an offer sheet.

In the end Dubas is in cap hell but he MUST sign Matthews. There's no excuse. Leafs fans can rant about the wingers on their limes but one might ask how long has it been since the Leafs had anyone up the middle as good as either of these two? Mats Sundin? Sorry.

Flyers never met with JT. And the Leafs being very good was the primary reason. He seriously considered the sHarks and staying on Long Island.

People were saying the exact same things about Nylander a week ago, 100% convinced the Leafs had to move him. Just because people want the Leafs to lose one of those guys, doesn't mean it will happen. There are so many things the Leafs can do before they have to think about moving one of those guys, not to mention the cap is going up this year and with Seattle expansion it will have another significant bump in a few years.

All part of the plan.

That's the thing, people hate the Leafs so much amnd want to believe they will lose their players, it forces them to come up with odd scenario's where the most bankrupt NHL team suddenly gets rich overnight and Matthews jumps at the chance to do the reverse of what JT did.(JT left a bottom feeder for a contender, Matthews would be the opposite).

Sorry, I need to hear where this $ will come from. They are dead-broke.
And does Matthews want to go there? When will he win? He's made the playoffs every year with the Leafs. The Coyotees barely have $ to hire scouts.

This is your fantasy, but it doesn't make financial sense.

Smart investors will look at a team losing 30+ million since 1996 and decide how bad of a risk it is.

He's from there and has said SEVERAL TIMES he wants to bring a winner there. It's WELL KNOWN that they have investors ready to put in, if it means bringing Matthews home. It's been reported every where
