LOL. The Coyotees owe MORE than their worth. They are in debt over 300 million.

The Coyotes are at 103 per cent, and yes that means that Forbes is saying they owe more than they’re worth.

If you sign someone to an offer sheet or big UFA contract, often it'll cost huge signing bonuses which is massive cash up-front. JT is getting 27 million this year from the Leafs.

You people are so delusional in your hate.

First off, I am no hater on Toronto. Its just that their fans are unrealistic. Overall, they are a terrible franchise if winning game is your goal. That's all. They have a tiger by the tail right now and a SMART GM. Its going to be fun to watch how he builds his team in the Cap-era.

With that said - AZ is NOT worth $300,000,000 friend. Not even close. If your neighbor in your development sells his house for $650,000 - and you paid $250,000 and you basically have the same sized lot, some sized house all in the same general neighborhood - does that make your house worth $300,000? Nope. Not even if the $650,000 one is all fixed up with a pool, landscaping and a new kitchen. This Vegas sells for $500,000,000 and Seattle has no problem getting $650,000,000 - that makes EVERY franchise worth more with AZ likely getting the biggest bump. You think the people behind Seattle wouldn't have liked to save 350m and just moved AZ? You think that Gary Bettman if the AZ franchise was in the trouble the Leafs fan talk about on this tread would allow expansion over relocation? Not for his legacy.

As for the long term value of AZ - if they can get Matthews - it goes UP and big time. Does Seattle have a super star? Will they? Not for a while. But do you comp out Seattle at $300,000,000? After a trip to the Cup Finals is Vegas worth $300,000,000? Nope. Its likely worth more like $600,000,000 or $650,000,000 thanks to their performance and their run in the finals.

I think the big market teams like the Rangers and Flyers WILL take a run at Matthews if they get a chance. My prediction is: it isn't ever going to happen. Detroit could use him. So could so many other teams.

If I were Dubas, I would make the best run I can this year INCLUDING picking up a rental or two to make a run. THEN I trade Nylander and his 6.9m to make room. Perhaps even trading him at the deadline if I could get some assets that they could use to support JT and Matthews in the coming years for much less money. That's my plan.

Why would they trade Nylander, as opposed to something like LTIR Marleau? Or trade Zaitsev?

They are in a crunch, no doublt, but it really isn't the problem fans of other teams make it out to be.

They have 6 forwards signed for $34M, 4 Dmen signed for $11M, and one goalie signed for $5M. they also have $1.2M remaining from Kessel. That’s $51M of $83M cap, leaving $32M remaining. No doubt the first $20 or so goes to Matthews and Marner. Maybe $3M to Kapanen. Leaving $9M for 4 bottom line forwards, 3 Dman and a backup goalie.

They COULD fill in with ELCs from the Marlies and manage that. Without moving anyone.

But what makes you think they’d move Nylander, instead of doing something with Marleau or Zaitsev first? At absolute worst, they really only need to find a couple of million. At best, they don’t have to find anything, if they’re happy with some of the Marlies like Liljegren/Sandin/Rosen/Grundstrom/Bracco/Engvall are ready. And reportedly, several of these guys are ready for depth duties in the NHL NOW……

True true. So, are you saying there is an UFA that the Leafs might lose?

And while Tavares signed to come home to a team he's loved his whole life, the Leafs are a top team.

Signing with a team like the Coyotes hardly has the same appeal.

And about your "Proof", Stamkos did not sign with the Leafs when they were bad. Tavares signed with them because they were a contender.

People talking about Matthews to Arizona are saying he'll do the opposite as JT.

That # Forbes gave in fairness had the Coyotees 31st in value. That was a terrible number for a pro sports franchise in 2018. It is low because of their horrendous debt and lack of revenue. The Seattle franchise would not want to move to the Coyotees and take on 300 million in debt.

right??? "Tavares will never sign with Toronto. Why do Toronto fans think players care about playing for their hometown team".

And now, of all teams to claim this about, the freaking Coyotes.

I don't think they'll even move Marleau. I suspect he ends up with no cap hit to the Leafs in some other manner, I'm not sure what that is yet.

How many times are so called analyst going to say the Leafs can't keep all these guys. It seems to me that they will. They don't need Gardiner and they can trade Kadri for cap relief. And any offer sheet will be matched if Matthews even signs one. I doubt he would risk playing for a crap team and making tons of dough. Just look at McDavid's situation. No one wants that.

Leafs cap talk generous a lot of $. It's like the Nylander situation, they milked that and made a ton off of it. I don't think they really believe this, they just get attention.

If you look at more serious "analysts", like at the Athletic, they all say it's a pipe dream.

Winnipeg doesn't move the dial, that's why the Jets cap concerns are ignored.

You are right, there are many ways to cut costs. Everyone assumes no one can be moved.

The Sabres should 100% do it if he reaches RFA. Any team with cap space and picks available should. Signing Tavares might not have been the best fiscal approach for the Leafs but they did it because he's great and they could

It really sucks that you have to try and defend the Sabres in an argument against the leafs. Leafs rebuild started later and they are still way ahead. Leafs got the better top centre. Leafs got an equal player at 4 as the Sabres got at 2. Leafs got the better Nylander. Babcock turned down buffalo to come coach the leafs. Tavares wouldn't even meet with buffalo and signed for less with the leafs than other teams offered. Leafs young guns have never missed the playoffs. Sabres young guys have never been in a playoff hunt coming down the stretch. Buffalo has 0 cups in team history and the leafs have the second most of any team in the league. But you keep fighting the good fight. Us leafs fans are so envious.
- HealthyScratch6

Through Your comments, you certainly are making a lot of absurd generalizations, first for an entire fan base, then a city, and finally for an entire nation....based off one Sabres' fan comment. Sounds pretty silly doesn't it?

You also do a disservice to any actual argument you have by mention of, the inevitable..."we've won more cups than anyone" argument. Come on, you must understand how the math works if your claim to fame is cup wins only when playing against 5 other teams, where before the season starts you have almost a 20% chance of winning the Cup....yet zero wins once league expansion began in the late 60's and the Cup became more elusive.

TO has a great team, people are going to take shots at you when you're at the top, comes with the territory. My advice, get some thicker skin and enjoy it, means your team has arrived (as a Sabres fan I could only wish for that level of trolling!)...and do us all a favor and forget about 1900's era cup wins meaning anything today.
