As of 9:23 Tavares hasn't signed his next contract extension. Why is that?

First, it's Gardiner. Not Gardner.
Second, he's not going to even be a factor in matching any offer sheet. You keep Matthews, let Gardiner walk, and replace with Liljegren.
Third, Nylander isn't being traded. Dubas is on public record about that. Trading him would make it difficult to convince players, agents, GM's that Dubas can be a man of his word.
Finally, Matthews isn't going to a dying franchise. Whatever extra money he can make can be easily made up in lucrative sponsorships in Toronto.
So nothing to see here...

I'm not saying he's going to be traded, but saying "The GM said so" as your evidence is pretty shaky. They need to keep the players happy, and saying "yeah, we're looking to offload that wiener." is probably bad for morale.

Its gonna be funny to watch all these teams struggle to lock up their young talent because they can't afford to give the front loaded bonus laden lockout proof contracts that the leafs give out like candy. Arizona gonna be able to stroke a check for 12 million to Matthew's on July 1st and then another one the next year even though there was no season.

No way dahlin resigns there. He'll jump ship the first offer sheet he gets. The leafs should offer him one of those front loaded contracts that they'll have to match just to mess with them and screw up their cap.

3. They HAVE made it out of the first round
4. They have a cup worthy defense
