Personally, I’d rather ZAR move down to the 4th. I know that takes away from giving the 4th scoring punch and maybe I’m wrong, but I think ZAR drags people down. - Rinosaur
And what, slide Simon to LW? I think Zucc has played LW in the past. So maybe do a third line of Zucc-Brass-Simon, 4th line of ZAR-Sheahan-Rust |

I figured Simon to LW. Hasn’t he played that as well or am I mistaken? |

Put him on the 3rd line with Brass. Then you’ve got..
Jake-Sid-Horny
Pearson-Geno-Kessel
ZAR-Brass-Zucc
Rust-Sheahan-Simon - j.boyd919
You missed my point... how do you fit $4.5M under the cap? Are you trading Maatta for Zuc as a rental? |

The cap is based on a daily accrual system. It is easy to fit in guys at the deadline. |

I dont see how that's possible though. We were in the same cap situation last year and look at the hoops we had to jump through to get Brassard at his $5M cap.... we traded away $2M in salary AND had to get $2M retained. |

No worries even if you were.
I see a lot of speed and skill plus good defensive tendencies away from the puck. He's also great on the draws. I keep in mind that he had some time away both last year and this year that kinda screwed with him getting in the groove. He was starting to take off last year when he got injured. Had like a 6 or 7 game point streak going when he went down I think. I keep in mind he's had a swinging door of wingers and no one has really been static to him. I dont forget how good he looked filling in at 2C when Sid was out. I look at the Pens record and goal differentials when all 3 big C's are in lineup. I keep in mind his huge sample size of like 10+ seasons of being good to great and I remember that his cap hit is only 3M on a team that's tight against it.
These are the reasons. - MattStrat
Some of this I agree with, but as far as the winger "revolving door"...I don't agree with. He had the opportunity to work with our two best RW's (Kessel and Hornie), and for whatever reason, it didn't work. Both of those wings played the worst minutes I've seen from them as Penguins when paired with Brassard. I guess it's fair to say, those wings are "unique" players because they need centers driving the play. This is where I think the problem of "fit" comes into play.
Anyway..... We'll agree to disagree......which is fine. I do believe he'll be traded unless he has a serious uptick in play. If all the recent reporting is correct, the Penguins were expecting more production and effort (fair or not). |

There will be 40 days left in the 186 season after the trade deadline. (21.5%)
Zuc has a cap of $4.5m
Say NYR retains 50%
2.25m * 21.5% = .484m
$484k is all the cap space that Zuc would require in this scenario.

Brassard was on the Pens roster for 44 days and only counted $1,182,796 towards the cap.
Reaves only counted $266,129 to VGK
Cole only counted $462,903 to CBJ and $33,871 to OTT
Jooris also counted $87,500 to PIT |

Honestly, I wonder how much of it has to do with the defense. The Pens struggled in transition after the Schultz injury on every pairing that wasn’t Letang/Dumo. The fact that they (the other pairings) used to get pinned in their own zone so often and long meant the Center spent more time below the dots helping them out which led to a lot of dump and change after running around their zone. I wonder how much of that plays into Brass’s effectiveness this season. I feel like his lines don’t get a lot of O zone time.
Given the Pens recent stretch of better play, I could see that benefiting him moving forward and acquiring a better winger for him (or even the top 6 to push other talent down) would be nice. They have too many D in the roster to add to the D so I feel like if Ruth does add anything it’ll be on the wings. |

I would have thought a first. I would think the Pens or any Metro team for that matter would have to pay a higher premium for a move within the division. |

Write up on Pensburgh about the defensive pairings that have worked and not worked well this year.
Seems every pairing with JO has been pretty bad over the last 10GP. Including the current Maatta-Oleksiak paring that has heavy O zone starts.
Maatta and Rikki looked to have something going before he was benched.
Pettersson has been pretty good with JMFJ only over 3 heavily sheltered games though. |

I feel like that’s all fan made up poop lol I don’t think teams really care who they are trading to when they’re trying to recoup assets. |

Jesse over at the Athletic was pointing out how awful Oleksiak and Maatta have been recently.

Just basing on recent rental deals
E Kane only became a 1st because SJ re-signed him. Would have been a 2nd otherwise.
Stastny got a 1st because Cs are overvalued.
Grabner got a 2nd.
The year before
Vanek got a 3rd.
Shattenkirk got a 1st
Eaves got a 2nd
Hanzal got a 1st |

Yeah. They've been lucky by most accounts giving up chances but owning a 5-1 goal diff over the last 10. |
