Exactly . If you had LE's 6 mil Gagners 3 mil you could have easily gone after Panarin and with the regular cap space gone after another top forward - VANTEL

IF...let us start there
IF every GM made no mistakes but they do
-there are many bad contracts around
IF Panarin would sign here it’s on his terms & for his reasons. Here is to hoping.
There is cap space for another top player & needed for D when or if available. F’s are the least of our concerns. Prospects need opportunity & not be blocked.
1 poor contract of $6m isn’t the end of the world considering league wide contracts & their impacts on teams. JT @$11m isn’t hurting the Leafs other than probably lose Gardiner since they rather get nothing. Highest paid here is LE & our cap is in great shape if analyzed. Only 4 contracts for 2021-22. 6 for 2020-21. |

Numbers are numbers for the purpose of cap managing. If you rather i could use Kopitar & how it hurts LA. Pick any you wish. Has Suter/Parise worked? Toews/Kane are a big hurt now. |

The point you keep sweeping under the carpet is there are overpayments and then there are mistakes.
Sutter and Gudbrandson combine for 3.5 mil approx of overpaid salary .
LE Gagner Del Zotto Schaller combine for 15 mil approx of mistakes.
That is close to a quarter of your cap space wasted.
I threw Panarins name out there but it could be any high end free agent. I didn't mean him necessarily . The point is we could have went after two high end forwards.
Also there are the smaller mistakes over the years like Burmistrov Weirchoch Vey Megna Chaput and the list goes on and on.
I
am not ganging up on Benning but you can not sweep the facts under the carpet and blame the fans for being too sensitive. He needs too fix some of those mistakes and start making smart moves. I like the Leivo deal. |

Two of those three teams have won multiple cups. Kane and Toews are also very very easy to trade |

or if they really don't care about the money, they could have taken on a bad contract to get pick(s) or move up in the draft like phoenix did to get chychurun. |

But they’re not. There is a difference between a high cap hit and dead cap space. All of the players you mention are either contributing or have contributed at some point during the length of the contract. LE has given the Canucks about the same bang for their buck as Luongo’s retained salary. |

Kopitar had 92 points last season (on pace for 54 this year)
Toews 52 last season (on pace for 65 this year)
Kane 76 last season (on pace for 85 this year)
Parise had 24 last year only playing 42 games (on pace for 71 this year)
Suter had 51 points as a D man last year, 31 the year before (on pace for 60 this year. Again, as a defenseman)
Erikson had 23 last year, 24 the year before (on pace for 34 this year)
you should probably pick different players again |

Nice too see the Loui hate out this morning.
Wish some of you were around, on some of the other sites, when I was getting my butt kicked for being adamantly opposed to signing him.😁 |

I give him credit for sticking behind the team good or bad, but sometimes you have to look at the facts.
I pushed for Schaller in the summer but you need to cut your losses sometimes and say I am wrong. Facts are facts

LE, Gagner, Beagle and Eousell add up to 15m.
I like three of those players at between 50 percent and 15 percent of the current salary.
With MDZ, Edler, Hutton and Nielson all coming off the cap next off season, we could easily fit Karlsson, Panarin and Bobrovsky into our cap structure while still affording to resign Boeser.
Cap flex isn't about what you could do, it's about the ability to do. |

I thought Schaller was going to pan out too. Again like LE played with better players in BOS that inflated his stats. Schaller really only showed any upside when he was on a line with Sutter. Maybe when Sutter is back they'll have a bit of chemistry who knows. |

I have liked what I seen from Gaudette so I have to admit I am hoping for some movement. Of course you need to give him time back but if we can get assets for Sutter then I am OK with going younger |
