Rust fell off the face of the earth. I thought he finally turned the corner as a decent middle six guy but (frank) he’s barely an nhl player at this point too. - j.boyd919
It's baffling. At least in the pre-season and the first few games of the season they had that Simon-Brass-Rust line, Rust looked ready to go.
I'm hoping he finds his stride soon. |

I'm not trying to make excuses for him, but he's playing with ZAR (who's barely an NHLer) and Rust who's lucky he remembers how to skate right now. - Rinosaur
I just don't see the effort. Haven't seen it all year......maybe 2 or 3 games. Rust is gawd awful. Kid doesn't look like he belongs in the NHL at the moment, but I at least believe he's trying. ZAR too. I can honestly say, Brassard was the only guy on our bench where I question the effort......and I can say that about the majority of games I've seen from him in a Pens jersey.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. I have a very different view when I see Brassard play.

Rust has been my most frustrating player. Read a good bit of articles saying how good his offseason was and he has shown nothing.
ZAR looked really good on the pk today. I admit to not seeing many games with him in the line up but he does go to the net and seems to skate well. |

I think we may have one of the better 4th lines the way they play with high effort throughout the game. I think we need some upgrades on the 2nd and 3rd lines. Hopefully JR can do something to help upgrade them. I think this game would have been different if the refs called a little bit more |

You can't even fault Pens management for this one. They handled everything perfectly with Rust, and he just lost it this season. He's always been a guy to show up when it matters most, so I was gonna say he'll probably show up in the playoffs, but for the pens, that could be an if. Rust better show up now if he wants the Pens playing meaningful hockey come spring time. |

While on the topic of management, I guess as a fan base we're hoping Sprong doesn't become the next Phil Kessel and have to regret letting him go. |

I guess that depends on who you ask. I don't wish any player has a poor career just so our team doesn't look foolish.
I think Sprong is a very talented player who got a raw deal and will flourish on a team that gives him a real shot. Will he turn into a 30+ goal guy? I have no idea, but I believe he's definitely a solid top-nine winger.
I more hope that Petterson turns out to be a valuable player for the Pens.
EDIT: Actually, I do hope the Sprong becomes the next Kessel, so they won't do this to the next offensive-minded forward they draft. |

If rust was the 20g guy everyone projected him as, that third line wouldn’t be an issue. Nor would the secondary scoring. At least with Hagelin when he wasn’t scoring he was great on the forecheck and always around the puck. Rust just looks like he is an ahl player right now.
I believe in him still given his efforts from the cup runs, but how many more games can he just not make any difference? |

Don’t think it’s Rutherford. He signed Alexander admin to that deal in Carolina. I likened sprong to that type of game. Sullivan prefers vanilla 90ft players over one with higher offensive skill |

Haha I was more messing around. It'd take a lot more for me to wish ill will on a player's career. I'll agree with you on the edit part because if DP and Sprong don't make headlines, I can see the penguins botching the futures of many other young players, with the sheep fans saying "Sprong and DP never became anything". |

I didn't mind last night's game. Pens were the better team by a margin. Anderson stood on his head especially in the 1st. I'll take the point.
One of the most controlling games I've ever seen a Crosby line have I think.
Maatta was a bit rough last night BUT that first goal against/of game that looked like he was out of it, both mind and position, he was actually tripped pretty bad to start the sequence. Scrambling to get back into position and what not he made an errorant clear/outlet to a Sen....then in moments, 1-0 Sens. Still though, overall, he could of had a better night. |

Yohe said plenty of times that Ruth loved Sprong. When we finally traded him the old man said something along the lines that it wasn’t fair to keep him in this situation. I think if it was purely up to Rutherford Sprong would have a serious role on this team. I think this goes back to the disconnect between the GM and coach we’ve all been talking about. I don’t think Rutherford and Sullivan are good fits for each other, but hey, at least we got two Cups out of this disfunctional marriage so I can’t complain too much. |

I'd like to see someone new altogether. What I've seen from Dea is blah. Maybe, just maybe there is another player in WBS that could contribute something else. The must think little of guys like Angello and DiPauli. - Thorny87
Yeah, I guess they think Garrett Wilson will provide more than some of the other guys. I really think you just call up whomever from WBS who brings the most tenacity/passion/speed and play them until its time to swap them for someone else. I thought Archibald was a good example of that..
To be honest, while I agree Dea doesnt really standout.. Dea looks a heckuva lot like this years version of Bryan Rust . I truly wonder if Rust has any trade value left... |
