Depends on what you get. If you can get Duechene and Stone for Jake, Simmer, and Myers then sure.
- youarewrong

2 pending ufa ? No thanks. I would like both players on the team but not at the cost of Myers with no guarantee on re signing. Also Ottawa gave up way more for just duchene do we think they'll give both for less ?

Giroux Patrick Konecny
JVR Coots Voracek
Lindblom Weal Simmer
Raffl Laughton Weise

Ppl gonna go apepoop over Weal being there, but we know that L3 has some chemistry from earlier this year. They didn't score many goals, but they were good at creating chances.

Laughton at 3C doesn't seem to be working.

- Tomahawk

yeah I just posed top 2 lines and you are correct, Weal had some chemistry and at least the puck was in the O zone. Lethera just aint getting it. 3 games ago AMAC was good, last 2 he has regressed, not sure Folin is an upgrade but.

I think Duchene is going to sign long term in Ottawa.

I would try to do something like Voracek for Stone or maybe find a way to get Voracek to Edmonton for something with Nugent-Hopkins in the package.

I would use Simmonds to try and get a young roster player from a contender. Example like Sam Bennett in Calgary or maybe a guys like Danton Heinen/Ryan Danato in Boston.

I still think a smart move by the GM can get this team into the playoffs.

The guys who want to have Patrick as a temporary 3C aren't crazy but there's no way they can break up that 1st line. It's the only thing consistently good.
- Pelle31Forever

If its the only thing that's good, you cant win anyway, so why not try splitting it up to see if it helps everyone.

JVR-Giroux-Konecny.... JVR gets put with a playmaker, hopefully he starts prodcing.. Pls Roo and JVR have chemistry from before.

Lindblom-Couts-Voracek.... Couts and Voracek have chemistry from when they played together last year and Voracek has the passing skills that Couts needs to be set up. Lindblom also takes advantage of same thing.

Raffl-Patrick-Simmonds..... Patrick has easier matchups... a line no longer of the same players. Raffl adds speed and defense.

He has and he deserves most of the credit. He has brought the aggressiveness to it. He has led the way there. Both up ice and in the zone.

but man, it has to take a toll on him.

I'm not trading simmer in the east to haunt us for the next 5 years. Hes going to Nashville San Jose or Vegas.

Agree.

Also I feel the forwards could be better defensively. Sometimes i feel errors happen but really it started with the forwards and the defensman ends up the scapegoat.

How can you possibly have a lineup where Couturier is playing behind Patrick?
- Feanor

Because Coots is the best 3C in the NHL. We need to get Patty and JvR going. They need a spark. Too important to this team's success. Patty needs different wingers and JvR needs a center to get him the puck. I could care less who is 2C and 3C. Just mix up the lines.

He hasn't been a 3C since Berube was coach. And he's been the Flyers 1C for the past 100+ games.

I didn’t like the JvR signing from the beginning. He’s not the guy they needed. He’s a fine player, but they needed a 3C or a solid veteran D. Seemed like a move to try to make Homer and Comcast happy.

What do you guys think? I still think the Jets will be forced to trade Trouba in the summer. would Trouba for Patrick and Myers be fair on your end? I think this has the Jets taking more risk. You could then have a top four of Provy/Trouba and then Sanheim/Ghost. It brings Patrick home to /Winnipeg and we hope he develops into a solid 2nd line center and Myers gives us a young d we hope develops into a top 4 option or at the very least very solid bottom pair guy.

The era of Coots as a third line center is long gone imo.
He is a valid first line center that I think, regardless of last night, contributes to the success of the first line.

Same.
I'd much rather have Simmonds than JVR. The JVR signing pretty much says Simmonds will be traded.

I get the JVR and moving TK. G can play with anyone and you hope TK can spark the 2nd line. I wouldnt be opposed to it, need to try something, they need more than 1 line.

if not moving G to center, you could also try

G Patrick TK
JVR Coots Jake

Coots might be able to carry a line.

Id be fine with trying that.

I am not worried about Simmonds haunting us for the next 5 years. I take best deal i find.

This is the reason Ottawa ended up with a deal they did for Karlsson.
