That's not a description of a hockey system. The Flyers system does not focus on point shots.
- MJL

Then why do they take more point shots that any other team in the league?

Elliott isn't healthy AFAIK so it would be dumb to play Stolie in back to back games. That's a lot of wear and tear in a short period for a kid who blew out his knee twice last season.

Understood; I hadn't looked at the sked and saw they were b2b -- I do get your point

Obviously, take it for whatever it’s worth but I wouldn’t see the reasoning to lie.

From the inter webs regarding Flyers ticket reps.

“He was saying how Hextall had a lot of control over Hakstol. I literally just let him talk and was like the fans aren’t coming back until Hakstol is fired. No one wants to watch boring hockey like this.”

What the hell are you going on about?

Smaltz did so "well," he got his ass traded -- soft as butter

Mittlestadt literally has the same amount of points as Patrick

Zacha got his ass sent to the minors earlier this season and only got called back up because Zajac got hurt

Some guys are better than Patrick, but that's reality and that's life. That doesn't mean that Patrick's done anything wrong in his development -- FFS. It takes time

I'll say it: Maybe Lindblom just doesn't skate well enough to play more

I think he's a good player, thinks the game OK, has decent hands. But he might be a half-second slow, and that's the difference between scoring and just looking like you can score

You don't call up your phantoms 28 year old leading scorer to be depth. Hurts the farm team. You do it to see if he can help this team.
- Tfaehner

there is nothing to lose, only the first line is scoring. At the very least someone in the bottom 9 is going to know they are heading to the cote suite

Because the Dmen choose to shoot.

The system is in place to generate offense. With Dmen like Ghost, Prov and Sanheim the smart thing is to run a system that includes them. They are encouraged to use their D to generate offense. It is what most teams do. However it is up to the Dman to choose what is best. Systems dont tell players to shoot from a certain position because one spot doesnt work. Every second is a variable. You leave it up to the players to make those decisions. We have a lot of Dmen who like to shoot the puck. That is all there is to it.

Or you could put Dmen in motion and have the offwing, center and d rotate through the slot for onetimers. You know, like we always say our goalies are too slow to cover when other teams do it against us.

So what you’re saying is we should get more dmen that don’t like to shoot the puck.

Except the Vancouver pick that draft year will go as one the weakest in history (exaggerated - maybe in the last 10 years)

We should be putting them in a situation where a quick shot on net isn’t the only option.

Yeah, he's been a bit of a disappointment, no doubt. But the added defensive responsibility that he's been given along with the shuffling linemates isn't really doing him any favors either. Hextall screwed this one up, there is no way around it. Letting Filppula go was the right call as he was clearly wearing down as the season went on. However, Hextall needed to do whatever it took to bring in another quality 3C that could do some heavy lifting in the D zone and kill penalties. Not doing so, along with not moving on from Neuvirth were 2 critical mistakes that led to his downfall.
- BiggE

Filppula would be 5th in scoring on this team

Patrick and Nico, are not "1 year" apart, only a few months. These two guys have 90+ games and are the only ones from that draft that have logged over 40 games.

Was Callahan banished to the minor leagues for half a season? Has he been a healthy scratch 40+ times?
- PLindbergh31

Nope. Might have something to do with that NMC Yzerman gave him. I'm sure Tampa has been thrilled with his performance and wouldve protected him in the expansion draft anyway.

I think the season is over now. You don't want to see Fletcher make any shortsighted moves with the thought of salvaging this season in mind. I think he's smarter than that. Don't want to see prospects or picks traded for veteran rentals. We've been down that road before and know the results.
- PLindbergh31

Which direction he goes should give us a better indication of why Hextall was really fired.
