People mad about not spending money in free agency are idiots. The real way to use cap space is to eat bad contracts from other teams in exchange for draft picks. The problem is that they keep increasing the cap so these teams with their gigantic bloated rosters get to resign all of their players.

Which of the free agent signings that people were mad we didn't get are even doing well?

It honestly boggles my mind listening to some of these fans. Like who in FA would have made a difference? Grabner sucked for us, moore needed to go. JT was going to TOR you can’t sway him. JVR has been hurt like all season how would that have helped. Maroon was going home NJ gave him a substantial offer and he chose to be closer to his son, and turns out he’s playing terrible too.
De hann is the only one I can think of that I can think of but why sign him when you traded picks for mueller already.

We do not have an old roster, so you expect players to improve and unfortunately right now this is the pains of a rebuild.

If you watch Matthews play and score goals, one thing came to mind. If Nico decided to shoot first he can score just as brilliantly as Austin.

Ya, because he shoots and puts himself in position to take shots. Nico should stop playing the "dirty" game or at least balance it out where other people are doing the board work and he can skate around for an opening.

You sign De Hann because we have plethora of poopty defensemen. Not because we have one guy we traded for. I'm thrilled Mueller has been much better then expected, but imagine if he blew as much as he did last year? This team would so completely (frank)ed on D.

The free agent signings aren't even just about what those guys are going to contribute now, but they are often potential trade chips ala Stempniak. So there is another element. Instead we have cap space out the ass and pretty poopty team. Is that really better then gambling on free agents?

"Gambling" implies that you don't know what the outcome will be. All of the free agents were bad players who were going to get long bloated contracts.

I think Butch, Vats, Mueller, Sev, and Smith round off a great young D core going forward. They should all be improving (maybe not Vats but if he maintains thats great), and adding a true #1 D could see this team turn things around. LJ and Greene, Kapla, Jacobs have clearly shown they are on the outs.
