It seems to be a bit of a toss up, but 2020 may take the edge in elite talent. Hard to say when the 2020 kids, half of them are playing Midget hockey still.

Lafenriere (sp?) is thought to be the next McDavid whereas Hughes is not. That's only top pick though. It seems that 2019 may have more forward depth and 2020 will have the higher end talent at the start of the 1st round.

Edit: As with any draft there will be good players to be had. We want STL pick to be the lowest I think rather than worrying about year. I hope they're 11th this year or win the lotto next year lol.

We also need Okposo to do better than 14g and 27 assists

Or find a neurologist in July who says he can't play anymore

- jcragcrumple

Yeah, he's been better than last year, but still not good enough given that contract.

He's our new Moulson, I've kind of come to terms with it. He hasn't fallen off the edge of the world yet, but unfortunately, I'm waiting for it. If Botts can cap dump him anywhere, he better get to it IMO.

LOL

Wouldn't take it that far, but there was a discussion on HF Boards a while ago about it. Seemed as though the "experts" there were torn on which was truly better. It's a good thing given our situation.

if one players attitude can make the entire team lose when they'd otherwise be winning, then the entire team is full of losers
- robz228

1 bad apple maybe not. But ror definitely contributed to losing here, Colorado and now st. Louis. Not seeing the correlation?

We had at least 3 last year.

He was also on the ice (and a big part of) one of our goals. He's fine in a 3rd pair role. The amount of depth we seem to have all of a sudden on the blueline is kind of crazy compared to where it was.

Pilut so far has made a case for why he shouldn't be in Rochester (it's only been 3 games, so that could change) but after last night, he's certainly going to make it hard for them to send him back.

Anyone know how long we're expecting Scandella and McCabe out for? I dont' expect to hear anything on Nelson quite yet since he just went down yesterday.

- HonkFortheGoose

McCabe is day to day as per Housley interview this morning. Not sure on Scandy, I think he's likely in the same range, but they are using this opportunity to get a good look at Pilut. Which is going very well

This is accurate. It is also important to consider who that player is/was within the organization. ROR thought of himself as the leader on the team. (same problem in Colorado, not sure about with the Blues).

I doubt anyone would dispute the idea that one personality can indeed alter an entire room/team if the personality in question is that of the leader.

Seems there was a power struggle.

Jack is clearly at the helm now, has tightened the rigging and has steadied the ship.

question: which is a better draft year 2019 or 2020?

I'm thinking the Blues sucking, and keeping this year's pick, could end up benefiting the Sabres in a big way in the long run. Especially if they start tearing it down and blow again next year.

- Angler

To be totally honest, it doesn't matter. If the Blues get out of the top 10, I bet we're looking at a top 15 pick. Next year is a totally mystery. They could be like Colorado was a few years ago and just be anyone's guess as to their level of success.

What actually matters is identifying talent that will grow into an NHL player. Botterill seems to be ok at that so far. Every year, there's gems in the middle/bottom of the first round. There's no reason why we can't hit on those.

Put him on Eichel's line
Inflate his points
trade for pick(s)
Profit

Agreed. However, I'm asking because I'm hoping one of them is due back sooner rather than later since currently our extra Dman is Tennyson.....

i can understand the appeal of players like that, but i just cant fathom why people want to re-do the oreilly trade for someone older and on a worse contract

got a good player but set us back for reasons. why the hell do it again.

- robz228

Franz Neilson would cost 1/4 of ROR.
