We can pay him 8 if that's what he wants but there is more to it then that, not all about money.

Fingers crossed.

It was a great shot
Doesn’t mean Sobotka (spelling, just for you) couldn’t have stepped up quicker & deflected the puck

Time was almost up, he had to shoot right then
He shouldn’t have hesitated there

- jdfitz77

Or, you know, so you don't look like a twat.

(Washedup, twat is also acceptable)

Wrong. They can and will move Hortons contract to the IR list if needed. Just as they did last year. It’s just a $ transaction. Leafs have tons of dough.
Stick to making crap up about the Sabres

- BernardShakey

His cap hit is on the books till the season starts though if I’m not mistaken. The Leafs have to be cap compliant before game 1 starts. So yea they’d have to move Hortons contract some how. But thanks for stopping by

A team can be 5%? over before the season starts to allow for that. I think it's 5%.

Spelling is hard because of Thompson, Sobotka and Berglund. They were supposed to provide the depth

Funny it took someone else beating a dead horse to get you to give the same reactions that are often given to you. Even if you do make good points a lot of the time.

And I say that in the most respectful, tongue in cheek, bros busting balls we're all on the same team here kinda way. lol

- joevthree

Fair enough
But Eichel isn’t in the elite class that McDavid is
It’s really not even that close

And I’m a big Eichel fan

That’s about a $9mil cost for that 4th line though
Fine for this season,
but far from ideal going forward

- jdfitz77

Yea that was my short term solution. Won’t be ideal next year.

There is a cushion that you get over the summer though. A certain percentage that you can go over. Typically you see teams that will utilize the LTIR designation for someone once training camp starts and they inevitably fail their physical. They don’t tend to go over if they don’t have that ace up their sleeve.

I've been reading your posts for longer than that, and I think most would agree that's the gist of your general "attitude" here. Which is fine, I'm just as tired of no championships as you are, and I actually have enjoyed reading yours and everybody else's posts all this time. But if you're going to constantly bash a legit #1 center, top 5 in the league, you need to get checked now and then just like anyone else would. It's nothing personal, (although you like to creep into that territory sometimes) I really do think you're a decent dude.
- joevthree

I don't need to checked on anything, I call it like I see it but because it's Jack Eichel people get bent over it. He's the face of this team and franchise and because of that we can't criticize him ?

Arizona is desperate for a player like Matthews and he is from there. How many great players come from Arizona? Not too many. Maybe Matthews signs an extension this year, who knows but I wouldn’t count out the Yotes.
- c1067

‘Zone could sign him to 15mil per...
and the Leafs would still match

No way they let him go
None

Reaves shoulders Wilson and falls down like he got shot out of a cannon. Now they are helping him off the ice, give me a break.

now they throw Reaves out, what a joke.

If any team is ripe for it it is the Leafs. He'll probably sign before FA anyway, because something rarely happens is a bad reason not to lock him up before it can. You're going to have to lose someone. You can't have ~$38M in your top 4 forwards and expect to be good(conference finals or better) year in year out.

Seriously 89 , so you watch hockey?

Skinner had a 204 goals in 579 games

Now 20 goals in 29 games with Jack.

Ek9 is terrible, but you love him.

Eichel is the best talent in buffalo since hasek and it's non stop bagging on him?

Eichel is the reason the Sabres are good.

Eichel made ek9 look good
Eichel makes skinner look good
Eichel makes pommer look good
Eichel makes sam look good

- Boss34

EK9 scores no matter which line he played on

I’d amend the Skinner point to read...

Skinner has been good, but Eichel has helped make him look great

Yeah, keep correcting spelling

Sobotka should’ve deflected that shot

I'll need an EK9 update, that's all you ever got is EK9. F you and Hasek.

Not to mention AZ would have to justify to the rest of the league that's been supporting their failing franchise for years why they needed even more money so they could offer sheet another team's player for stupid money.

And they'd probably need to have it front loaded with most in signing bonuses to beat out whatever the Leafs already intended to offer Matthews, since that's what they did for both JT and Nylander, giving them most of their money near the start of the contract, something a team struggling financially might have trouble with.

Plus Matthews would need to want to go to a bottom feeder team (even if he grew up there) instead of a cup contender with all of his current friends/teammates.
Once in a while players will want to go home to play for their childhood team (see JT), but they generally do that when the team already looks like a good team, not when they've been wallowing in mediocrity for years.
If he doesn't sign an offersheet, it doesn't matter how many get submitted.

I think the odds of him even getting offersheeted are minimal, even less likely he signs one.

The thing most people don’t seem to grasp when begging for offer sheets is the player/agent has to sign the damn thing for it to even exist.

Why would Matthews want to play in AZ over a cup contender?

EK9 has 7 goals and 9 assists for 16 points in 28 games. Respectable numbers forsure. But he had stretches of games where he was over a ppg with Jack. Skinner has 28 points in 28 games this season but realistically it’s 27 points in 22 games when he was on a line with Jack.

Yes, of course. That's what these boards are for after all. The kid is busting his ass out there, selling out to win. We're all tired of the losing, and waiting, I get it...but they just won 10 in a row...give them a little slack for crying out loud. I mean, you were approaching Fitz bashing Josh Allen levels lately. (HAHA Fitz...tongue in cheek, joking man...don't @me lmao)

I have a feeling these centers are going to be like the qb's from the 83 draft

oilers got their marino
leafs got their elway
we got our kelly

- homiedclown

I compared eichel to kelly in this exact senario a few days ago.

You bag on eichel with 89.

Now he's a hall of famer?

Go root for sam.
He's been playing well.
