Not trying to read too much into things but they did say "weeks, not months". So by weeks they meant A week?
Kinda have a feeling this firing was set in motion well before last Monday. |

Ok cool.
I don't see the need to blow up the dude's history before he is even (frank)ing introduced by Homer and Scott. Why don't we reserve some judgment until he makes a few moves for (frank)s sake. - ajw12
I second the motion. Ayes?

I really don't see him moving any quality young players or top prospects right now. Where I think he may differ from Hextall is that he may be a little more willing to move a 3rd round pick or non blue chip prospect to make the team better now. I also think the moving of a core player, other than Simmonds, perhaps someone like Jake, just became more of a possibility. - BiggE
I think they could do this and still be a playoff team this year. |

Yes, they should give it all they’ve got, right!?
Best case 5-1
Worst case 3-1-2 - NC Flyers Fan
Who knows, you can play a great game, but run into a hot goalie and lose. You can play a poor game and your goalie stands on his head and the other guy gives up 2 softies. I don't think they go 6-0-0, nor do I see them going 0-6-0, but pretty much anything in the middle is possible.
However, for sh!ts and giggles:
12/6 vs CBJ W
12/8 @ BUF OTL
12/9 @ WPG L
12/12 @ CAL W
12/14 @ EDM L
12/15 @ VAN W
So, fwiw, I'm going with 3-2-1 |

Lets go with Stolarz. The other two aren't going to be there after the season. Give Stolarz playing time, he may be a #1 goaltender. He'll play as well as the two we don't need. |

I just don't get the (frank)ing double standards in place for this poop -- Peter Chiarelli.
Good GM or crap GM?
Welp, he's got a Cup and another finals appearance on his resume.
Does anybody want to hire him?
Jim Rutherford was part of the Hurricanes' decade-long playoff-less streak before he got ran out of town. But he had a Cup and a finals appearance before then. Was he smart, then stupid, then smart?
FFS. It's about your (frank)ing players. You probably need a decent coach. The GM needs to get players and a coach.
Ron Hextall accumulated a lot of assets. At some point, you gotta get players, and the Flyers needed more of those, and he was slow to get them.
Fletcher deserves an opportunity to either get the job done or not |
|
|
|
Well...we are where we are. With Fletcher in place I hope they / he can improve this team for the now without taking his eye off the future, which he's acknowledged.
They desperately need a second line center, or first, if they expect to make any kind of noise in the playoffs. Hextall leaving Patrick to pivot that second line as a first year player was always a mistake imo, never agreed or understood that. He's been thrown under the bus as far as I'm concerned. |

Exactly. Within 5 minutes of Ronny being shown the door, Fletcher was "rumored" to be the front-runner. About as suspect as his record as GM.
Just the usual bs asking for permission to speak to/interview Zito, Nonnis, etc when it was all predetermined. |

He had the rope because the guy who hired him wasn't going to change it. Also it has to be weird, I now it's been a couple years now, but not being able to pick your own staff.
i am curious if Hakstol wanted to make some changes on his staff and wasn't afforded that. From all the reports it seemed hextall was micro managing things. And i know Murphy was let go so the possibly could have moved on from Lapparriere but maybe they didn't want to turn over the whole staff right away. - J35Bacher
This is a great defense of Hakstol but Hakstol does make his own share of mistakes and decisions he also won’t bend on. Chris Vandevalde. Coaches challenges. Usage of goaltenders. Etc
Hakstol isn’t failing by himself but he’s not helping. |

Yet another early lunch, I see. Please don't use your extended break from the job you claim to have to send me another PM about why you prefer Luke Schenn to Radko Gudas. I already have enough of your unsolicited trash cluttering up my Inbox. - Feanor
Actually it was my 15 minute break. I apologize for not submitting my work schedule by you today, as it matters. You clearly don’t know how a work schedule works. Right now I’m enjoying my early lunch.
Here comes the Luke Schenn to Radko Gudas argument as if it isn’t three years old. Keep skipping to that well. |

Can someone give a quick explanation on the William Nylander cap hit being $10M this year? The deal has a AAV $6.9 but this year is for $10? I thought the cap hit is always the same and the actual money paid to the player fluctuated. |

Simmonds for Carter?
Kings get a contract off the books and can flip Simmonds before the deadline for picks
Carter doesn't have a nmc, Simmonds has a list (I'm pretty sure LA is on that list).
Flyers would probably have to sweeten the deal with a prospect but I could see a trade like this happening. Martinez could be an option too. |

Tell me this: Who are the great GMs in the game right now? Seriously?
I keep reading how people are falling all over themselves for Bill Zito. What's he ever won? Did I fall asleep for 50 years and miss the Blue Jackets making it out of the first round?
Yzerman never won a Cup as GM. Is he great? I keep hearing that he is. One finals appearance probably shouldn't be the definition, because otherwise, Paul Holmgren has that.
So tell me. If Chuck Fletcher's so bad, then who's good? - AllInForFlyers
IMO there was no need to make the change the Flyers did. They hired a man who laid out a plan, the deceased owner was down with said plan, the new conglomerate was down with the plan, until it somehow wasn't.
In the grand scheme of things Fletcher>Zito>Hextall>Homer the only thing that changes are the names.

I don’t think we can judge Hak solely by what he did the last few seasons. I do think he has made small adjustments to improve in his problem areas. As to his development methods, people will never agree or like it, but his track record there is exemplary. His lack of a timeout in most losses still needs work, but I really think it is important to judge him from this point forward.

Sure, but are we trying to develop young high end talent or are we trying to develop a coach? This is Hakstol’s fourth season. I’m one fan who has seen enough. |

No.
If i am moving Simmonds i would want a younger NHL roster player coming back. I know they need a center but I am not just trading Simmonds for anything.
