I understand the report that the Flyers are likely looking for a goalie, and I understand the reasons why. They're not wrong

But I just might wait. They probably won't, because they want to make the playoffs. But I actually think it's somewhat important to fairly evaluate Stolarz -- not saying he is the answer, but he is an asset who should be evaluated

I thought the same about Lyon coming into this season, but he has been on and off being hurt a couple times. Can’t understand the same hesitation that is applying to Stolie also. Is it because of the young defense core? Honestly, other than past injuries (this season for Lyon) there is nothing wrong with Lyon or Stolie. Both young and need a chance to settle in, which is tough with inconsistent team play. Like any developing player, they reach a point where they have to play to learn and grow.

When healthy Elliott was keeping us in games.

I dont think he's been healthy all season so can't really say that. He started the season hot and cold then had a great stretch before his most recent injury. Last season he was mediocre.

The two season's Hakstol has made the playoffs, both times they were just above .500 at the end of the calendar year and put together good runs in the 2nd half of the season. I expect the same this year even if no moves are made.

Yeah there's enough talent and energy on this team to make the playoffs. Hakstol is a good coach and should be able to find the right mix. The goaltending just needs to hold up. If Elliott and Stolarz can do what they've been doing we're fine.

Very fair. What's interesting is how quick those stories came out. And they were very similar in what they said. As well as what was said on TV in outside markets. Maybe it's all arranged? Or maybe the talk has been going for a while and is known around the league?
- easY

Yeah, we'll never know.

I'm just looking forward to see what this team can do, it's kind of dream situation for Fletcher.

Last year and this one he had those really good stretches you're talking about that got us into the playoffs and that's all we should expect from him.

That's the point. They need a goalie they can expect more from.

Honestly they have the assets go out and get any player they want this off-season assuming the player the want is available. Exciting times ahead hopefully.

As I said when they fired Hextall and kept Hakstol they fired the wrong guy

The anti hextall stories, to me, says they realize after the fact that may be true

I’ll give you the goalie situation, but, since hextall went with this tandem, he had to listen to someone, didn’t he? Did the trainers and doctors tell him Elliot and nuevwirth were healthy? And if he micro managed so much why believe them?

Maybe he tried to make a deal for a goalie, but thought they weren’t worth the cost? Fletcher, if he is going to make a deal soon, will be bent over and (frank)ed 10 ways to Sunday to slightly, if that, improve the tender situation

- corduroy

I agree. I'm not sure the goalie situation can or should be addressed in season

This has nothing to do with what mistakes were made before Hextall got there.

He started his reign with a goalie that gave him a stellar 928 save % and 2.25 GAA over 50 games. That performance was sandwiched between 2 solid seasons (917/918 save% and 2.50 GAA). How do you think the Flyers would be doing with that type of goaltending this season? That's not saying Mason would be providing it right now. Its pointing out that Hextall managed a good situation into a bad one.

- Baxter27

Absolutely it does. There was no depth as I alluded to previously. That limits the number of resources for a team. It has a ton to do with it. Not having other in house options forced him to re-sign Neuvirth. In Mason's last season his SV% was .908 and his GAA 2.66. I'm not sure how much it has to be pointed out. Mason was done. He played 13 more NHL games after Hextall correctly decided to move on from Mason.

Somewhere in the middle absolutely. That still leads to a tenuous working relationship. In terms of who will speak up for him? Let's see what's written once he lands another job. If he's doing well, they'll be a piece on what happened here.
- easY

There won't be much more written about it.

Why was everyone so hyped about quick yesterday ? Hes been injury prone and not quite himself in recent years. I dont think he would even cost that much to acquire they'd love to rid the salary and Peterson is their goalie in waiting.

How'd it go around here today?

Did anyone let themselves be trolled by Rick Wilson's out of context comments about analytics?
