Like everything else in life it doesn't matter until it does. 99.999% of the time you don't need a seatbelt, but you want to have it for that .001% of the time when you do.

I don't think the Sabres were bad. I just think the Preds were good. Their positioning is rock solid.

The powerplay was a (frank)ing joke. House needs to back to the drawing board.

How many times are we gonna try that 50 ft. drop pass to Eichel???

Year of Transition
Probably a bubble team,
Good enough to hang with the best in the league...win some lose some.
Play during 10 game winning streak was so much better than last year...looks totally different...but was unsustainable for winning...although they learned they can compete with and comeback against some very good competition....Great building blocks for future sucess.

Breaking in a bunch of young, new players....bodes well for future success.
Pilut still has development needed, gets caught up ice too much...time, playing, and coaching will fix that
Tage, needs time AND needs to learn to skate...guy cant turn tight, nor can he change dire tikns quickly...loses balance constantly. Put on some weight, and start using size to his advantage.

Old guys are serviceable for now. But next year it would be great to move on from Pommer, and find a way to dump either Berglund or Okposo. Bergy is going to be the nddxt Moulson as soon as next year IMO

The sad thing is that Nashville was also missing some of their key players.

Sure, but the faceoff argument is so selective.

Berglund won 3 “important” faceoffs in the last minute.

What about the 30 random ones they lost which could have led to something?

There are 50-60 faceoff’s a game, and most teams hover around 50%.

They are utterly meaningless to pay attention to

Sabres won a faceoff last night, immediately turned it over and the puck was cleared.
Did it matter the Sabres won the draw, absolutely not.

Also, there is 0 correlation to faceoff % and Puck control and Winning.

2 things about last night.

1) we played like crap and only lost by one goal to one of the best teams if not the best team in the NHL. so we ARE headed in the right direction. I am not worried at all....

2) JFC our Power play blow's . Can we please just get back to basics, dump the franking puck softly in the corner and out work the opposing team for possession. Can we please not do the D-man skates it up to center ice and drop passes it back to Jack who then tries to skate through the entire team only to get striped at the blue line.....

Points are points man. Tavares/Skinner don’t score nearly as much without Marner/Eichel feeding them the puck. Yea Eichel should of buried that breakaway last night but if you read the article from Travis Yost I posted in the blog yesterday you’d understand that Eichel is just very unlucky this year. He is top 5 in the league in shots on goal, and is producing more shots in dangerous areas, but has a 4.97% shooting percentage.

Reinhart > Eichel, Reinhart > Marner.

Special teams doesn’t matter, Assists and total points don’t matter..........

Skinner has 20 goals and Rantenen only has 10. Skinner > Rantenen. Assists don’t matter, Points don’t matter.

Winning the Faceoff is only one part of the equation, you have to have skill on the ice also to keep the possession. I don't know the numbers and really don't care ( I prefer the eye test over analytics) , but I would imagine our possession numbers are a lot higher then last years.

Good luck with that. Even when the Sabres were dead last we never lost that bad to the Leafs.. In fact the we went 2-2 last year and the worst loss was 5-2.
