I guess he will miss 40 games 1 way or another.
Thanks for the hit breakdown. - I Am The Breadman
Caps announcers calling for a Reaves suspension. Wonder if they said that when Wilson ran wild.

Hawks D prospect Dennis Gilbert suspended for 3 AHL games for illegal hit to the head of a San Antonio Rampage player. Gilbert also fights with another Rampage player after the hit.

If he can play steady defense, he could push for a 3rd pair or 7th man spot as a stay-at-home defender say by the 2020-21 season. He has a big frame like Dahlstrom but actually uses it fairly consistently to play physical. He could be a better version of Manning. Or he could end up being Manning 2.0. |

I don't know... looks like a 'Kronwall Special' to me, except in this case, Gilbert looks a bunch bigger than the guy he hit. He didn't really jump into the hit and his elbows were tucked... |

The Hockey News top 30 UFAs for 2019.
Not much in the way of D-men after Karlsson. Maybe Myers but I would think Stan would pursue Stralman because he's older yet fairly steady on the back end so he could be signed to a 1-2 year deal to buy more time for the D prospects to develop. One of Murphy or Manning needs to go to make room, though (assuming Keith and Seabrook remain on the Hawks).
Top 6 talent worth a look even if ultimately unaffordable: Panarin, Stone, Skinner, Lee, Eberle, Zucarello. I'm sure Duchene will be looked at but would rather avoid him unless he has truly matured since the Uber incident.
Middle 6 worth kicking the tires on: Nelson, Silfverberg, Dzingel, Donskoi. |

Looked like a good hit. His elbow was tucked in and the puck handler skated right into with his head down. |

Yeah, looked clean to me. Devastating but not illegal.
CamRussell described it as Kronwall-esque which I would agree with except for Kronwall did have a habit of leaving his feet but rarely if ever got tagged for it. Kronwall wouldn't be a douche and do Torres torpedo jobs but replays would often show air between Kronwall's skates and the ice upon impact. Slight but still left his feet to make the hit. |

Granted this is against OHL defense, pretty exciting goal by Boqvist. The avalanche of teddy bears is a nice exclamation point.

Kid has an A+ wrister, can’t wait to see him in the big leagues some day. Pretty cool that they played Chelsea Dagger when he scored, although I’m mostly sick of the song. |

Stone would be my #1 option, then add Dzingel to improve the depth. I think Stan (or his replacement) will Ben aggressive in the UFA market this summer but it won’t be on defense.
In all likelihood Keith, Seabrook, Murphy, Jokiharju and Forsling will be back next season. They’ll want to grow from within and I’d be surprised if Boqvist doesn’t get
a shot to make the team. Maybe Manning or Gustafsson sticks around to be the #7 d-man.

I love how Boqvist just whips that wrister anywhere and anytime. Gets the puck and doesn't waste time to let 'er rip with accuracy on net.
That's how you generate scoring chances for yourself and for teammates. Too much of the current players corralling the puck or doing the Keith triple-pump which just allows time for the other team to prepare for a block. |

I would have to agree that priority on the UFA market should be forwards.
That sounds about right that next year's blueline will start with those 5 you listed with the 6th spot likely going to Boqvist and 7th spot to Manning. Unless there is a chance to ship him out and upgrade through another transaction, I'm actually fine with Manning at 6/7 to help bring a physical edge that the team needs more of.
I would think that Gustafsson is gone if both Forsling and Boqvist are on the team next season. No need to have all 3 of them plus Jokiharju. Or maybe Stan sticks with Gustafsson and moves Forsling. I prefer to stick with 42 over 56. |

Forsling>Gus IMO. But we don’t have to move either of them. Neither have many NHL games and each is skilled in some areas.
One thing the Hawks need besides homegrown talent is actual NHL level talent. Our overseas signings have been ok but not always good.
Panarin was great
Tikonov sucked
Kahun is solid
Rutta sucks
Kampf is ok
It wouldn’t hurt to sign a guy who has experienced SUCCESS in the league. Manning Kunitz Ward are meh, look at Jason Botteril and pick up some real NHL bodies.

Watching LA vs AZ and I still don’t understand why Hammer was traded...would still be the best 1v1 Defender on the Hawks by a mile....as he ALWAYS was for 3 Cups. Very underrated core member on the Cups, and similarly in The Tank. It’s no coincidence to look at the defensive team play after losing Hossa and Hammer summer 2017.... - EnzoD
Just my opinion, but Hammer did NOT have a NTC/NMC... |

Could it be that the NHL is foreseeing a move of the Coyotes to KC? - JPBurke27
No - but I imagine the Kansas City marketers are putting that old chestnut out there again.
I lived in KC for years ... there is a reason that the NHL only lasted 2 seasons there - and that is because it is not college basketball. The city dangled the 'get an anchor tenant' to get their brand new (then brand new) downtown stadium through tax referendums ... I assume it was more than one by now... - and that would be an NHL and/or NBA franchise ... it was basically so they could have a downtown stadium so they could host some future Final 4's in the NCAA ... as they had been told that Kemper Arena no longer cut it.
Pretty much every move was being spouted as being 'going to Kansas City' -and sometimes it actually came from the teams - but as a bargaining chip to get a better deal where they were (like Pittsburgh at one point, even Nashville...)...
Now the fact of this is ... frankly because when the AHL and IHL merged - and the owner (DeVos iirc) -could only own a single team - he ditched KC in favour of some smaller, actual, hockey market in Michigan ... he did it because KC was lucky to draw 10000 some odd fans on a great night -which I don't think is anywhere near what might be a sustainable market for the NHL ( keep in mind this was when the top ticket was probably about $15.00 ... I don't actually know if that was the amount - but more of a guesstimate ... it was $10.00 when they first had joined the IHL in 1990 as an expansion team -and that was for seats on the glass right behind the net (which is where I had mine ... behind the visiting net -4 seats off from the goal judge who was an old guy sitting on a chair in the aisle.... in the 1st and 3rd periods ... that wasn't so bad - I got to see Hasek play there when he was in Indy ... but I really preferred sitting in the upper deck to watch plays develop ...
NM that - the point being KC? It would be surprising, but probably pointless for the league to do that. |

A team with S Jones and Werenski on defense. Plus R Murray has to be one of better third pair. Honestly how does a Torterello team surrender so many goals this season?
Do not say Panarin adds to the defensive woes. He is no defensive great player. Where do the problems lie? - jhawk59
Actually he isn't bad at defense - not sure where that comes from, but it isn't from watching the guy play ... but I mean don't let me spoil the narrative.

Gus does not belong in the NHL. A D-Man who cannot play D is a huge liability, especially when you add that he is a high risk player. He affects the whole team, every time he is on the ice. I wish he did check all the boxes but he simply does not and you can’t just ignore his weaknesses. So not only does he slot below Forsling he slots below everyone.
Forsling could actually be a special player. He is not the complete package yet but he shows you glimpses. He shows you glimpses across the spectrum on D and O. Can skate, will engage physically, has true skill.
Rutta remains a question mark. However, there are times you see him actually ride off a forward ,taking the puck, that makes you think he might put it together. Has size and skill. At some point a call must be made concerning Rutta - either intensely help with his development or let him develop somewhere else.
JC seems to really respect Kampf as a player. Don’t know that Kampf deserves this level of respect, at the NHL level, but let’s see it play out. At some point with players like Kampf it is not just about what they are doing, it is about who they are blocking.
