Interestingly, Leivo had the 7th most PP minutes of Leafs players this year.

I remember the euphoria of that fanbase when they got Lipstick.

Some (mainly Booner and Vants) couldn't believe the Leafs exposed him in the expansion draft.

- walshyleafsfan

to be fair to Vantel and Booner, Leipsic's main asset is his speed, and the Canucks have been one of the slowest teams in the league for the last 6 or 7 years.

He can't hockey though.

Hopefully you're quicker now because Leivo isn't fleet of foot

Absolutely.

Honestly, like all of us . . .you sort of feel that Leivo was maybe worth more than a guy you hadn't heard of . . . that being said, most other fan bases haven't really heard of Pierre Engvall, and he has a journeyman's chance of cracking the NHL.

But if I stop and am objective about it, Leivo stopped having trade value when he was just good enough to sit in a press box for an entire year - and no one approached the Leafs with an offer to pry him out of there.

tbh, its all moot this year anyway.
It will be interesting to see how well Leivo fairs in a top 6/bottom 6 role this year, but we as a fanbase almost collectively expect a bottom 3/5 finish and a chance at a high draft pick.

you are giving Benning too much praise
- Codes1087

He's an imbecile, let's face it, he drafted both Juolevi and Virtanen - two horrible picks - still better than the guy in Edmonton. I believe the problem starts with the owner, not Benning. Leafs organizational improvements started when Tim Lieweke was hired, and ownership stopped interfering.

Yup - the only factor leading me to think "maybe" is that he's only making 1.25 next year. Does he really want to lug his equipment bag around for that kind of coin? And the fact that the contract had him earning 17.5 over the first 2 yrs suggests that maybe ...maybe he only wanted to play 2 years.

...maybe

- The Law

Funny, I was thinking exactly that. It's a clever contract because it basically favours the team heavily in that last year, and helps Marleau make up his mind - just in case he's on the fence.

Fun fact, Mega man 2 has two difficulties. Normal and expert.

But in the NA version, the japanese guys from capcom made the normal mode as an "easy mode" because they didn't think people in north america could finish the game otherwise.

So what we got is actually easy and normal mode instead of Normal and expert.

Exactly, Leivo is a good player. I have been supportive of Dubas, but this is a clear bad move IMO.
- Archaic

agreed....
not sure why they simply didn't waive Marincin or Holl or Ennis...

what's the likelihood someone takes Maricin at this point ... and if they do - so what?

Yeah, i think more high picks are still needed (obviously). Gotta go for it though, no Virtanen or Juolevi's. More Hughes and Pettersson's.

You need to pump and dump. I don't know why, but last year's pump and dumps just didn't work. Should've really given Gagner the easiest matchups and most PP time out of anyone on that team (last year)

meh, no use complaining about things that aren't going to change (ownership changing). Also, no point in dwelling on hindsight with those picks. Were they wrong? Absolutely, but can't change that now.

Leafs organizational improvements started as soon as Dubas was hired at the helm imo. Comparing LL's contracts/acquisitions to Dubas are quite laughable. Dubas is exactly the direction that the league is going, and I think he has done an absolutely tremendous job. I might also be in the minority, but Nylander at 6.9 is a very affordable and good contract

I got banned awhile back for some lude comments about Nylander, probably not helping my case.

I think Marincin would be claimed for sure. Probably Holl too. Just can't have enough dman depth in the league.

I hope Grundstrom and/or Engvall get a look on that 4th line towards the end of the season.

holl would be a top pairing, or at worst, top 4 on the Canucks lol

We are well passed that now, with no hope of return. There's nothing Leafs fans can say that will stop the trolling madness on every thread.

We've had Babcock won't make it passed year 2
Laine will win the Calder
Marner is too small to make an impact
Rielly is a number 4 dman at best
Nylander won't re-sign
Can't afford Matthews and Marner
Matthews will sign a 15.9m offer sheet with the Coyotes
Leafs always get the calls on the ice (31st in PP opportunities, 29th last year)
Plan the parade
"insert name here" is the new saviour.
And on, and on, and on

Trust me, Mr. Smokey isn't giving anyone a bad name

- walshyleafsfan

good list Walshy...

should we bother to add to it... I don't really think its necessary as of now?

No he was right. It started by hiring Tim Leiweke... That brought in Shanahan who hired Lou and Dubas.

Leiweke was a man with a successful past who stayed away from the media and just went about his business.

Now they have an MLS Cup, the best team in the NBA and NHL.

Glad Leivo is gone.. He was just a distraction and never really had a chance to make the NHL..

Next its Brown who gets tough love, then Marleau, Ennis??
