Yes, we will never truly know until a young player is stapled to Crosbys side for 65 games no matter what. Sprong had every chance to show he can play hockey. He isn’t that good.

He is not terrible at all. I remember Letang was terrible in his first year playing pro NHL defense...a lot.of solid defensemen struggle a bit early on. He is new to the NHL and definitely not old. I see 58 letting us down more often than 50..maybe u have an old tv and are confusing the numbers on the sweater??

There have been many that suggest he is above any potential trade...Norris cailbre..etc...he isn't that elite. He isn't even the penguins best option to quarterback a powerplay. A number one defenseman needs to be competent at that. Also he is not needed to win, it's been proven. Ppl get very uppity when suggestions of moving him are brought up. He is not in the same realm of Sid and Geno. Those are two you never move.

Like Desmith gave up a softy to Schifele the other night but then Helebuck(I botched both their names lol) gave up an even softer one to Grant. Letang is amazing. He’s worth a couple super high firsts IMO on a bad night.

Couldn't they have at least traded for a RH D? It'll be interesting to see what Sprong can do out west. 2nd line to start?

The other thing is to the person that hates Letang on the pp. Yeah he's not Gonchar on the pp but Gonchar would get smoked like Maatta sometimes when a guy would go with speed along the boards towards the net. Point is every player has their "flaws".
