I actually think Pettersson's waiver eligibility may be a bad thing. I'd almost prefer that this move forced another trade. Instead, he or Rikkola likely go to the AHL and the team is virtually exactly the same.

Dear God I hope he doesn't trade our first this year because more and more it looks like our first will be a decent pick

Mannnn...slippery slope. Selling at an all time low. Officially puts us on the goalie carousel for the rest of 87/71 primes.

I'm really torn on this. Our blogger likes to talk about league average goaltending at .920 when its really closer to .910. So technically, we could get by with the likes of guys like 38 year Ryan Miller or Tomas Greiss or whomever. So if we can trade Murray for a really solid, young, speedy top 6 forward then... maybe?

I just have no idea what his value is right now so hard to have a stance on it...

Crazy idea that will never happen...

How could the Pens ship Murray to NYR for Hank with salary retained?

I know it’s lunacy, just spitballing. Lol

Yup...Sprong was drafted in 2015 and 3 years later still nothing to show for it. So in 2019 that 1st most likely won't be able to contribute for 3 more years and 87/71 will be closer to 40!

Pettersson is playing a full-time role for Skelleftea as a 19-year-old in 2015-16 and skated for Sweden at the 2016 World Junior Championship. Still learning the intricacies of playing defense, Pettersson has the skating ability and technical skills to be an effective two-way defender. He is not a punishing player for someone despite his stature but relies on skating, positioning and his passing skill. He plays a style similar to current New Jersey defenseman Adam Larsson though his overall game is not yet at that level.

Ohhhhhhh..... now it makes sense. Now we can trade him for the future NHL MVP.

Kid had every chance in the world. Traded a forward who wasn’t playing for an upgrade at defense. Not a bad move.

Not really. Pettersson and Rikkola are waiver exempt and Ruhwedel passed through waivers already. Rutherford doesn’t have to do anything, and if he does we’re probably (frank)ed because five of those guys are bottom pairing defensemen and he’ll probably move Maatta which will lead to two bottom pairing guys on the second pairing. If this Sprong trade is a domino for a bigger Rutherford move, I want to unsubscribe.

Does Chicago have Bottom pairing issues? Maybe they think Rikkola is good and would give up a Kunitz for him.

No that’s what I think too. Think Rutherford just made a one for one prospect trade for a guy who still can pass through waivers and cook in the oven a bit more. But if he sees it as a roster move that makes Maatta expendable we’re in trouble.

The Penguins lost in the playoffs last year for a variety of reasons. Missing Ryan Reaves was not one of those reasons.

I think trading Brassard is a little misguided. Selling an asset for pennies doesn't make sense in my opinion. The only time I'd consider it would be if you get an asset back like Brassard. Similar to the Hagelin deal.

I also think Brassard hasn't gotten a fair shake all of the time. He has been forced to play wing (which i know he can do, doesn't mean he can do it well) and hasnt always had the best linemates.

Give him a real third line and the opportunity to play and I think you'll get a better result. Chasing him away for nothing when he has a history of scoring, makes no sense to me.

- SuperHenderson13
Im not going really argue that all to much, but has Reaves scored more goals since that trade than Brassard playing fourth line semi enforcer minutes? Just asking because it’s kind of like Brassard doesn’t score, or even really exist out there most of the time.

When is Shultz expected to return? Him coming back makes Maata expendable. He just hasn't been good. I see Maata, Rust, MM, Brass all as pieces at t his point.

Reeves played better for LV than anyone else in the bottom 6 last playoffs.

You can't say Tom Wilson was not a factor in the Caps run. Pens got pushed around and lost.

Y'know who'd look really good in a Pens jersey?

Kapanen.

I'm not saying you lost the Kessel trade, it was a good trade. But i bet you wish you still had Kappy. You should at least.

No thanks. Kuni should never have left, but at this stage I'm not moving that player for kuni. I like that kid and he could be a gem found from no where.

I love hearing MM is done. I was hoping that the injury would essentially end his career in Pittsburgh and it looks like it. Too bad we couldn't possibly trade MM for MAF eh? Funny how that works...

I also like the idea of Brass gone too...and Rust is useless this year, so he can go too.

I would not touch our D until or if we can get an upgrade down there first.

That leaves all these piece to fix all the issues that Sullivan has created. He wanted his guy Murray over fluery...he pushed out or didn't play pieces like Cole Reaves and Sprong. Seems to me that fixing the lineup is great, but our coach and gm are not fully on the same page. But, only one of them was given an extension..so....where is coach Q?
