It was kind of part of the blog but it would also be nice if people had a discussion, like you are having right now, instead of pretending like any deal for Nylander (even the obviously good ones like Pietrangelo) is heresy. - Unholy_Goalie
You know. If this topic came up maybe once a week, im sure peeps would discuss.
But its every single bloody facking day.
The same thing.
Willie just signed. So hes not being trade anywhere at the earliest until feb 2019

And the deal he signed makes it easier to trade him.
I never said he should be traded tomorrow. I said once they get his value up, that coupled with his contract, gives the Leafs a great trade chip to upgrade the defense. |

I just think for this year, let's see what the offensive juggernaut can do before we start trading away players.
Next year we'll look different on the backend with Hainsey gone, possibly Gardiner too, with Rosen likely.called up and possibly Sandin at some point. There's still Holl to consider too. |

I live in Nova Scotia and my brothers and my dad are going to see a leafs game in march either rangers or panthers. That's the two games the leafs are playing while we are there. Do you guys have any suggestions on sites we could use to get the tickets, besides ticketmaster. I know it's expensive either way - Kurtsy
If you go to the Panthers game just buy the tickets at the arena entrance, heck they might even pay you to attend the game! Have you seen the sparse attendance there these days! You pretty much got a choice to sit wherever you want! |

Ok big question for everyone:
Which of all the elite big named D men in last two years have propelled their team to cup or made a huge impact?
Penns already got here without Letang
There are many more such stories and yes there are good players out there
My favourite is Erik Karlsson. He’s not up to snuff this year but he’s on an old team. He had 9 shots on goal against senators. Him I will always like cuz I know what he can bring. Him I definitely would fit in. By marleau by hainsey - BreathLeafs2015
If there's one dude who look totally lost with his new team right now it's Erik Karlsson. I know its still early but he just does not look comfortable at all in San Jose!

And I think the idea of banking on being an offensive juggernaut is risky and has failed many times before for many teams. Scoring a bunch of goals doesn't always work in the playoffs. We've seen many teams crash and burn trying to do that in the playoffs.
Also, next year could be a defensive disaster. Gardiner could walk, Hainsey is finished and the Leafs have a bunch of unknowns in rookies and prospects. Upgrading the defense is as much about this year as it is about next year. |

Nope. Gotta trade Nylander because reasons. Doesn’t matter the return, just trade him. - Steven_Seagull
exactly ... especially if they can acquire someone older who has a higher cap hit... that would be awesome

He won’t be traded in February 2019. Are you crazy? That means the acquiring team has to dish out on July 1 2019 $8.3,000,000.00
If he’s traded and I’m not asking that he’s traded will be after leafs swallow $8.3 |

If Bozak wasn't so poop defensively, he'd be a 3rd line center. His scoring ability isn't impressive and he's on the wrong side of 30. But speaking of being on the wrong side of 30, Thornton is 39 in July. And he's missed almost half the season this year. And he's costing the Sharks 8 million dollars. That's the complete opposite of what the Leafs need right now. It was stupid enough to sign Marleau and blow the money required to keep JVR, more money spent on a grey beard is just a waste of cap space.
Tavares, probably a huge long shot, would be worth going after if he tests the market because it allows the Leafs a tremendous amount of flexibility. It allows you to make Kadri the 3rd line center (perfect depth situation) and it allows you to trade Nylander to get a legit #1 D.
But, chances are Tavares is staying in Long Island which means the Leafs need to move either Nylander or Marner to C and find two-top six wingers to replace JVR and Nylander or Marner's spot on the RW.
So basically:
Plan A: Tavares, trade Nylander+ for #1 D (a young one) - Not happening.
Plan B: Move Nylander or Marner to C. Find two top-six wingers - More likely.
Plan C: Sign a defensive 3rd line C to a 1 year deal (Vermette?) - Very likely.
Plan D: Re-sign Bozak for 3 million or less because he's familiar - Hope not.
Plan Z: Old players for too much money. - Unholy_Goalie
Plan Z sounds a lot like Pietrangelo. Yet sign JVR

"The long term ramifications of the deal seem perfectly structured for Nylander to be dealt next summer."
Remember when you were adamant that Kadri would be gone by half way through his deal? Remember how that worked out?
Might be worth keeping your opinion to yourself, and just focus on copying/pasting from TSN/Sportsnet twitter... |

From what I understand EK WAS the voice in the dressing room. Now there’s Pavelski burns thorny etc and it’s their way things are done. Indeed an adjustment. One of senator players said that with E karlson in the room was like a dictatorship and now that he’s gone it’s like democracy. He’s adjusting to a whole new city and dressing room and I still think he is the best in nhl even with his off performance. He’ll be back |

Another 40+ shot game for Andersen.
The long term ramifications of the deal seem perfectly structured for Nylander to be dealt next summer. With Dubas having to re-sign both Marner and Matthews, year two of the contract is nearly all signing bonus ($8.3 Million) and very little in base salary ($700,000), which means after July 1, a team would be acquiring a 23-year-old top-six winger for nearly league-minimum money and the next four years at $6 Million per season. That scenario would be similar to last summer’s Ryan O’Reilly trade, where Buffalo agreed in principle to a deal with St. Louis in late June and traded him after paying a $7 Million bonus on July 1.
Yup, Nylander for Pietrangelo on July 2nd, 2019, the same day Marleau retires in Arizona. - Unholy_Goalie
