False. Tavares is the same age. And there's so many examples of top end defenders playing well into their mid 30s without issue. If Hainsey can play until he's 38, Pietrangelo will be just fine at 29-35.

But he eats up a lot of cap space so if Tavares is playing like poop when he's 33, do you want to be paying him 11 AAV? But that's the risk they took because the odds are, he'll still be good at 33 and so would Pietrangelo because they're both high level players.

Why would St. Louis make that deal? If they put Pietrangelo on the block, they'd get a better offer than Zaitsev plus spare parts.

Also, what's the point of having him for 1 year when you could move Nylander and open up the cap space to re-sign him and give yourself a bigger window of opportunity?
