If Leafs would have signed him to this deal before the season, would have had more additional caphit this season's trade deadline - nothing won by Leafs.
It is quite clear that Leafs will have to deal Nylander July 2nd - can't have Marner and Matthews sitting out in similar fashion as Nylander next season (bc Leafs wouldn't even be able to fit new contract under the tight cap next season).

Yeah they have to clear first. This is only to buy time. Dermott will be right back and not miss a game.
