Trade nylander who is a good young winger (who just signed) for a good Rfa winger?
What part of that makes the tiniest bit of sense? Why trade nylander? Why trade him for a winger? Why trade him for an Rfa? - burn
Ugh jesus.
He simply means a cheaper decent winger.
Maybe one that scores 50pts for 4m per....dunno.
But its not difficult to see what he was referring to.

You can enjoy Nylander on Leafs for one last season
After that, it's cap crunch time.
Hopefully he'll put up great numbers - so we can deal him for another good winger.
I'm not a big fan of Gardiner, and think Nylander adds more to the team than Jakey...
However, I feel that Dubas and Babcock might want to keep Gardiner over Nylander, and trade Nylander for a good young RFA winger..
I hope for Nylander he'll have a good first few games, if not, some Leafs' fans will start booing him quickly - nobody needs that.. - plantheparade

They pick up a quality 4/5 dman at the tdl, maybe even a top 9 forward with some bite with andersen playing how he is.....they could go real deep. |

I wonder how much they pay? I can't imagine you'd make enough to live off since the AHL pays peanuts and it's a "real" league. |

People were saying kap could replace nylander (it was much more than 1 person) after kaps first 10 game. Ridiculous. I believe coontlander has a higher ceiling.
Nylander won the contract battle, 4g's shy of 7 is not a win for dubas, but dubas couldnt let him sit.
Nylander will play all season and it will be nice to see our full forward line up during that time. Actually it will be great, but i could see willie being moved in a few years time or kap plays himself into a higher cap hit and will get moved as a result.
But this year, we move pics to fill holes at the deadline and load up. This is our best chance for thr cup, hopefully dubas makes a run.
It should be fun. - Fakepartofme

Not exactly right Nylander won the battle, but he ended up with very little extra at the end of the day.
He Lost about $2 million for sitting for 24 games - just as a rough estimate $7 x 24/82 is about $2 million the difference over the life of the contract between $7 and $6.5 is $3 million, so he gained $1 million over 6 years - about $167,000 per season. The actual amount of loss is based on days missed not games but this is only an estimate.
What he did was for that very small extra amount (frank)ed the team for $500K of cap space for 6 seasons. You could say it was a win for Willie, I'm not convinced of that. It was a loss for sure for the Leafs cap space. Don't know how Dubas could have handled this differently

Burke is ahead of the curve, drafting busts so you dont have to pay players that become really good.

Of course Nylander won the salary battle - he got more than he deserved, and without virtually losing any money for sitting out.
If Leafs would have signed him to this deal before the season, would have had more additional caphit this season's trade deadline - nothing won by Leafs.
It is quite clear that Leafs will have to deal Nylander July 2nd - can't have Marner and Matthews sitting out in similar fashion as Nylander next season (bc Leafs wouldn't even be able to fit new contract under the tight cap next season).

what a genius!
every other team will be stuck having to pay for their elite players while the leafs will have tons of cap with all their garbage players.
