What say I?

Nylander fallout.. what fallout? He ended up getting paid a couple hundred K more than Pastrnak. Big deal. This isn't like overpaying a few hundred thousand on a fourth liner. The Leafs have signed him, but who also says they keep him for the term of the contract? Gave up on your sign and trade, Ek?

Matthews.. he's going to get paid a lot of money. Won't be a surprise.

Silfverberg, the Ducks will probably trade him if they're out of contention at the deadline. Pretty typical for pending UFA players. The bigger shock is in Randy Carlyle still having a job.

Simmonds. He's going to get overpaid this off season.

Flyers GM. Flyer fans better hope there's no truth to the Kypreos roomer of Dave Noni's.

I wish I could get another hundo for writing that.

I love Burritos!
- Woderwick

Burritos are just like the Leafs.

You load up a burrito with too much beef, all of a sudden you don't have enough room to keep all your other ingredients. You can't keep everything you want: cheese, guac, rice, lettuce, salsa, hot sauce.

Problem is your tablemates know you are in a postion of weakness - you ain't getting a Coronna for your cheese.

So you think that taking all that beef was a great idea, but in the end you are just left with heartburn, watching your friend from Ottawa enjoy the best burrito of the year.

Leafs fans can't have nice things - including yummy burritos.

Matthews has a very quick release and accurate shot...best I have ever seen, and I’m 60 years old.

Great to have Nylander back, and his cap hit makes him tasty enough to get a number one defenseman, at the trade deadline. Him or Kapanen, and I'd stick with Kapanen. Best pick-pocket in the league.

What Matthews brings is somewhat different; he is a student of the game. Uses his hockey smarts, and that besides great hands, makes for an elite player

That is my problem - loading up on too much of a good thing, no room for that one ingredient that will take that burrito over the top, and no money left to buy another one.

I agree with others that Matthews is amazing at handling loose pucks and releasing an accurate shot. Not sure if he's the best ever but definitely one of the best you'll see.

Matthews can receive any pass... No matter how bad it is. Any angle, air or on the ice, hell catch it.

Matthew's guess: the amount of goals he has in comparison to his possession with the puck. I watched replays on tsn the other week and they were showing highlights of how he has scored many of his goals. As soon as the puck touches his stick it's gone! Hes scored 10 goals in under 15 seconds of puck possession time.

Must have 2 pucks in each nostril after scoring 4 goals against the sens in his nhl debut.

Matthews is the best at using his footwork to disguise the placement of his shot.

This.

And to add to it, his ability to get a shot through a defender's stick and skates, while using them as an effective screen.

The Matthews Skill breakdown:

To consider him the BEST EVER to play the game in the specific area is always going to be up for debate. To give it credence, I will assume it's something that has come to light more in recent years than back in the glory days. He gets hurt, he comes back, he doesn't appear to miss a beat. He addresses the media effectively without giving up too much info. But based on current events, my guess is going to be more Nylander-related.

Ek, I believe you think Matthews ability to play alongside any given linemate(s) and not only be successful himself, but have the others contribute above their normal rate of play as well... that is where Matthews could be considered the "BEST EVER".
Lots of one-man shows have come and gone. Some superstars are difficult to find linemates for (see: Crosby, McDavid). But Matthews turned Nylander into a (nearly) 7-million dollar man, and had Nylander held out for the season... Kasperi Kapanen was going to get paid handsomely for becoming an offensive Juggernaut seemingly out of nowhere. Whoever has been put on his wings, thrives.

If I'm right, I don't want anything Matthews related. I want to write a blog with and edge once a month, on any given "flavour of the month" in the hockey world of my choosing. Guaranteed to spark the comments section. And if I'm wrong, well there's a first time for everything...

Did you forget Crosby took guys like dupuis and made him into a fan favorite. Or right now what he’s doing with Simon. Or when he made AHLer Brian frickin’ Gibbons look like an all star in the NHL.

Matthews is a great player, but I’m interested to see what “skill” he has that’s better than players like Crosby, mcdavid, Kane, ovi, McKinnon, and some others.

Any other team and he would've only gotten a mere 3 goals. And then had uneven nostrils.
